PA, they should have no reason to leave the area this time of the year, you will be alright. I see alot of 120-130 class bucks every fall where I hunt. I pass on those bucks, but this is Iowa and we have 2.5 year old bucks that will go that much. I wont shoot one unless he is 140 or better. After shooting a 182" buck last fall I might let 140s walk, until the rut is over that is.

What is everyones average buck that they normally shoot?
I would say 150-155 average for me in Iowa.

You the man! I would say my average buck would score 155-160" as well.. But they are Mule deer! My first and only WHitetail buck was last year and he scored 98" or so.. I will beat that this year though!

I would say that the average buck goes about 100-110 in my neck of the woods. There are some dandy ones take out of various properties in the area that might push 140 but they are few and far between. There have been a few sightings of two 160 class bucks but with all the hunting pressure here they disappear fast once the season starts.

Hello all, been a few days since I posted anything. I did manage to get out into the swamps and do a little scouting. Found some rubs and one small scrape. Found some potential locations but I am going to have to get my Thermacell warmed up before I go into hunt. Mosquitos were pretty bad. But it is the only hunting I can do until the earliest Mid October in Arkansas

Well guys I'm finally back home. I will be getting my camera out next weekend to see whats on it. It has been out almost 2 months. Can't wait to get to the woods.

Have you found the thermacell to be a problem in the sense of deer detecting it? I have seen countless hunters give positive testimonials of them but have never really tried one in the deer woods. I would be concerned that there would be some type of odor.

Thoughts?

I too have used the thermacell, i have yet to see any negative impacts. Well I shot my bow several times this weekend. Got the new easton's flyin great. I practice out to 60 yds, however I will not shoot past 40... Just a personal choice, I like to get close.

PA- I have used a thermacell for several years, when they first came out. I own three of them. They do have a odor, however so do we no matter how hard we try to conceal it with all the steps and gadgets that we use. If a deer gets down wind of use there is a good chance that they will bust us so the small amount of odor out of them does not bother me, it sure beats setting there with all those bugs swarming around my head.

Mulie- I also have been shooting my bow, might as well kill my target for a while till I can set in a tree. I practice out to 50 yards but want my hunting shots to be 30 or under. I would take a shot out to 40, IF everything was in my favor to take the shot.
(Calm deer, true yardage known, and no cross wind that would effect my arrow.)
I have never taken a shot past 32 yards and have shot them as close as 5 yards on the ground.

I hear ya. Last September I had a big 6x6 Bull in Idaho at 50 yds.. Perfect conditions, broad side, I just couldn't do it! I have now killed 6 elk total, Not one has been farther then 30-35 yds.
