Hi guys

sorry I'm late. Great to finally be placed on a team. Season in AR doesn't open until the Oct 1. Bucks are still in velvet here, but haven't seen alot of wall hangers. Lots of does, so hopefully the boys will be close by.

This is only my second bow season, I got a late start last year, but I'm looking forward to this year. 3 stands plus a climber. small plots planted on 1 stand and an area for the climber.

My gear:
Hoyt Magnatec
Trophy Ridge Matrix
Anchor sight
Tru-fire release
Real tree A/P camo

Glad to be aboard and I'll try not to embarrass myself to bad.

Everyone have a safe season.:party0005:

Chris

Welcome CJ, sounds like a nice set-up, best of luck!

I have been out twice, on evening hunts, the deer seem to be moving around 6 to 6:30 here, we've had a nice cold front, i should get to hunt fri, and some on sat and sun. depends on field work, we still have over 5k acres of wheat to plant, been rained out since monday with a chance of rain today and tomorrow. I saw Mr. Spread a couple weeks ago, he was standing in the ditch just after sundown, i drove right by him. fall crops are stating to get cut, sure hope they hurry up and get the corn out, that would take away alot of cover. Good Luck guys!

My buddy went to our spot in MD and sat Tuesday evening and all day yesterday. He saw the big 8 that we have on trail camera, but he saw him fighting (yes, knock down drag out fighting) with an absolute monster. He said this buck has to be 170 inches. He saw him again last night too. Both bucks walked down the creek and if they turn right they go to him, the turned left.:nonono2: He shot a 151" buck there last year and said this buck makes him look tiny. He'll be going back tomorrow and if he doesn't get him tomorrow I'll be joining him for a couple of days next week down there.

Still waiting to hunt antlers here in PA.

cjahlert 09-25-2009 05:40 AM

6 days and counting here in AR. Its been raining for the past two weeks. I haven't had the chance to check any cameras so I'm hoping that my throw and grow mixed with some turnips has survived the rain. Unfortunately I have to work Thursday, but hoping that I can sneak out a bit early for an evening hunt. If not I'll be hanging in a tree Friday.

Safe hunting

Not much to update...muzzleloader early season just ended thankfully...now waiting on cooler temps and the second saturday in october to get here. I can't wait.

Ken/WV 09-27-2009 12:49 AM

BTW...lets keep this topic going alittle better and more active. We are slacking some....I know everyone is waiting for season but some pics of deer, or stand setups, or just shooting is cool and usually sparks conversation. As soon as my desktop is repaired I will for sure post up pics.

finner 09-27-2009 11:29 AM

Well guys i hung my last set friday on different peice of property i got permission to hunt, i think its going to be a good spot, i cant wait to hunt it come Oct 1st. OK, I'll post up a pic or two. The cam was trying to decide whether to go IR or color and it picked wrong. I got a series of shots of these guys sparring.

jnrbronc 09-27-2009 04:19 PM

I wanted to pull this cam today and move it to another property. I came down this trail, grabbed the cam and headed back out the way I came. On the way out, I happened to look down and see a big fresh hoof print on this trail. Check out the times on these two.

Tending a scrape.

jnrbronc 09-27-2009 04:28 PM

Same scrape, different playa

jnrbronc 09-27-2009 04:32 PM

I picked up a fall archery turkey tag figuring that I'm gonna be out there, why not?

Paddles 09-27-2009 05:23 PM

Well since I wasn't able to scout much this year. I decided to post a few pics(ignore some of the dates) and a small video from past seasons. I hope this gets the blood flowing a little.:party0005:

I put up a stand end of last week and moved the camera over a scrape. Hopefully it takes some pictures. It's been acting up as of late. Not sure what is going on with it.

What about a graphic for our team? Any ideas??

How about a huge buck with a city skyline silhouetted in the background? Anyone have any graphic design experience?

Pops423 09-29-2009 05:29 AM

I wish I could design. I do like the idea.

finner 09-29-2009 08:54 AM

Cool pics guys!

I like that idea for a avatar, computers and me dont mix very well though, i wish i could help with the graphic.
I will ask one of my teammates from the team i was on last year if he will help us with a graphic for our team.

jnrbronc 09-29-2009 12:20 PM

I'm not a graphic design type of guy, sorry.

jnrbronc 09-29-2009 12:58 PM

Would either of these town bucks work? I resized them for avatar use. Under the street lamp:

Good luck to all the PA boys for opening weekend. Unfortunately, I will not be out. I'm coaching an in-line hockey team of 1st thru 4th graders and this weekend we kick off with 4 games on Saturday. Then on to watch my daughter cheer for the youth football team. The buck I'm after will still be around come November.

Either they are really BAD or everyone is out hunting.

Either they are really BAD or everyone is out hunting.
They dont look bad Pops, i would say go with it, but its up to the rest of the team.

Wish i was able to hunt today, since its the opener but here i am at work, wish i able to hunt this evening but i have obligations to attend. Figures today looks like the best day as far as weather goes, supposed to turn crapy for the weekend rain and wind, but ill be heading out anyway if its not gale force winds that is.

jnrbronc 10-01-2009 04:40 PM

I'm good with the middle single pic between the doubles.
Yes, I was out trying to hunt today...... Not good, lightning, torrential rain most of the day, got soaked....

Paddles 10-02-2009 06:35 PM

Hey guys, I just wanted to say good luck to everyone on tomorrows hunt. As you can see I went with Pop's middle one just to try it out and see what you guys think.
AGAIN GOOD LUCK!!!

cjahlert 10-03-2009 06:48 PM

forgetful

I was all ready Thursday night; lunch packed, coffee maid, bow ready, 4 wheeler hooked to the truck, and a tote full of clothes waiting to be loaded.

I got up early Friday Morning and off I go to the woods, about an hour drive. Saw 6 deer on the way so I'm thinking its going to be a good day.

I get dressed, 4 wheeler off the trailer and realized I forgot my climber, which was sitting in the garage next to the door, being just a bit angry, I headed home turned on the outdoor channel and drank my thermos of coffee and ate my PB& J's and nutty bars.

I'm going to try it again in the morning, lets see what else I can forget.

Don't forget your fall protection.

cjahlert 10-03-2009 06:51 PM

Pops,

They all look great, a better man than I. I like the right of the last bottom 2.

I secured the ability to hunt a 3 acre piece of ground. Now that may not sound exciting but it's the missing property between where I currently hunt. It's the 3 acres of ground between the bedding and the corn. Oh yeah, it also has a half acre overgrown Apple Orchard. Oh Yeah!!

When I saw the land owner his first words were, 'Tell me you've seen the big guy!!!' I played dumb and didn't let on. I know in the past I've been too open with what I've seen and last year had my spot invaded by hunters who didn't have permission. This year the surrounding property is posted (I'm still good to hunt on it) but I don't trust guys.

Anyway, lunch time today will find me moving a ladder stand and a trail camera into the area.

Been hunting, alot, haha, have passed shooting 3 bucks, and 14 Does, so far, dang it, all of the Does have shown in the evening hours, I'll most likely put one down later this week, I would much rather shoot my Doe in the morning so I dont have to worry much about a nite track job. I did have 3 Does last thurs. morning, I was on my knees, just getting ready to pull my bow up when they came thru at 10 yards, this is sad, i actually got the bow up, they were closing fast, arrow in nocked, i pick the lead Doe, as i start to draw, my thigh starts to cramp, ouch! honestly, lol the more i tryed to pull the more it hurt! must not be drinking enough water?? they got down wind and kinda got nervous, no tails, or snorts, just they knew something was up, they cautiously left the area.
Oh, here, I am nearly finished with my new reloading headquarters. after deer season, cold of winter, it will be nice to sit down and make some custom ammo with very tight tolerances. :becky:

Pops423 10-05-2009 05:52 AM

Nice looking room. Good luck.

Make sure you go back and review the avatar's on page 11 and let us know what you think.

Pops423 10-06-2009 07:17 AM

crickets...

Pops423 10-06-2009 07:30 AM

Went in late afternoon to move my stand in and had a doe walk right by me. had to leave because the owners dog wouldn't leave me alone.

Went back late this morning and saw a doe feeding in the orchard. Got the stand all set and ready to go. Going to let it settle down for a few days before hunting it.

jnrbronc 10-06-2009 04:41 PM

The only shots presented last weekend were numerous button bucks, a 1.5 year old buck and a 2.5 year old buck; nothing I'm interested in during the first week of season.

The young bucks were doing a lot of chasing so hopefully the big boys will get antsy as well. A major cold front for this weekend, even chance of flurries on Sunday, so that ought to jump start things as well.

Paddles 10-07-2009 06:32 AM

I've seen a red fox, a few doe and a small 8 pointer. Nothing major going on. I'm counting on that halloween time period to see the big boys. GOOD LUCK GUYS!

I hear you on the Halloween time frame. I have a couple of doctor's appointments scheduled for Oct. 28 (annual physical type stuff). I noticed that the moon is supposed to be good that evening. I don't usually pay much attention to moon phase, cause if I got the time, I'm hunting regardless. Anyhow, I took the whole day off work so I could spend the afternoon/evening in a stand.

HuntingBry 10-09-2009 05:21 PM

Pops, I like #3. Nice work.

In other news I've been out quite a bit, and I've got us on the board! The story is in the bowhunting section, but here are some pics:
