We are very fortunate to have a lease on a GREAT pc. of ground. It has been managed for the past 11 yrs. and there are some bruisers taken off of it every year. My personal best off of the lease is 143". I have had some great encounters with some slammers, but it just hasn't worked out. Hopefully this will be the season it does. I would love to stick a good solid P&Y early so I could sit back and wait for a chance at one of the big dudes!

Brett, how many deer can you shoot in a year? Here in Minnesota, we can only get 1 deer for the whole year. So if I get one with the bow, that means I cant tag one with the ML, or shotgun. I should add, that there are places in Minnesota where you can get up to 5 deer.

Here in Illinois we can shoot two bucks a year and basically as many does as you buy tags for. Our archery permits are sold over the counter. You get one either sex and one antlerless only permit for $26.50 total. I have a family of four with one teenage son who likes to hunt. We eat quite a bit of venison so we usually try to shoot 3-5 does for the freezer. If either of us takes a buck, I usually cut the tenderloins and back straps out and turn the rest into homemade brats.

Checked the camera today, and after 6 days, this is the only buck that came by. Think he is the same buck from earlier in the season. This is the spot where I planted my Hot Spot from Biologic.

That's a good deer. Hope you catch up with him this fall.

Trust me, if I could dump my house, I would think about it, but I am so upside down in my mortgage, I will have it for the rest of my life. Up until last year, I could buy one either sex tag, and then buy a management tag for a doe. But they changed my area to a lottery area, so now I have to shoot a buck, unless I send in for the draw,if I get drawn, then I can shoot either sex.

It has been too hot in nebraska for scouting, Plus there are too many corn fields and not enough hay fields around. Tomorrow I'll go get my cameras on my biggest piece of ground I have to hunt. Let you guys know if anything good is on there... Oh and here is my 07 kill 138 and the deer I was hunting in 08 164 that my brother shot..
