Week 5 Scores Talk
Well, if last week is any indication, I don't expect to see much on here for a few days. I have a busy week this week (including a drive down to PA for the sports show), so I thought I better get my round out of the way. I have changed the lighting in my workshop so I can see my pins better when shooting at night. Wow, what a difference it makes. Not so much in the score, but in my comfort level while shooting. A little improvement this week and that is all I am asking. Baby steps.

I also got my round out of the way today.... I would like to get out a couple evenings this week and look for some sheds... I also have a class I have to take for work for 10 hour on Saturday so I figured I better get to it early in the week.

Awesome shooting buckeye, I bet that one feels good. That's a fantastic HC score, with a great x count as well. Have you been doing aiming drills?

I did them 3 nights last week then shot my lowest round of the year on Saturday... lol... I didn't shoot yesterday and shot my round today. I was really baffled after my round on Saturday after working like that thru the week last week. So yes I have done them, it was either thursday or friday the last time I did though. |

Man, I'm sayin!! Good shootin bro, man...
I'm hopin these big ole lincoln logs I'm throwing, and slowing the bow down considerably will help....I think it will.... |
RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Alright RJ and Buckeye..What's an aiming drill? Come on, i'm a sponge here...I've been doing my 10 yard shots a couple times a week. Need more tips :D

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
I'm hopint to have some different limbs for my shoot for week 6.....if Bowtech can get them to me, fast. Even at 62#'s.....I feel like.....late in the game.....the bow could get away from me. It's an unnerving feeling.....trying to get the release off before the bow (in your mind) goes off.
I'm betting on STILL being in the 310fps range at FIFTY-TWO pounds. I think I'll have a good time shooting at that #-age. We'll see. After shooting my shoot on Sunday.....I'm happy with the score I put up in wk 5. Also....I shot my first two EVER 30-3x ends, last night:) |
RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
I came out of the gate on freakin fire tonight. My float was beautiful, hanging right on the X. My first 9 arrows found the x ring 5 times. I am beginning to see a pattern in which spots I shoot well. My 3rd one, which I have on the left, I dropped 1 point the entire game. The upper right....Well, that's a different story. I dropped 17 points on that spot alone, and 2 on the lower right. Man....If I could have shot the upper right as well as the other 2......I would have been mid 440's......I all but shot the center out of the left side spot......
I dunno what the deal is with that.....pisses me off though. |
RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
I tried to shoot a little for practice tonight, but was too weak. I had the flu all weekend and missed work Monday. I hardly ate anything all weekend. I will try to gain some strength and get my round in later this week or on the weekend. No use even trying to shoot for a score right now. I was all over the place.

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
I had some time before my meeting last night and went out to shoot for an hour with my son (in the rain). I was worried after my last two rounds that Iwould shoot lousy and realize that I was just lucky lately. I think I am really making progress. I shot great. My new goal is to break 410 by the end of the contest. That doesn't seem like much since I shot a 407 last round, but it will mean I am still improving and making progress. Matt, I want to thank you for giving me this motivation to really work on my shooting skills.

Exactly..now how about that tip (or practice drill)of the week segment?? ;) The 10 yard practice did make me more comfortable. Even after only doing so twice.
If I could keep those few out of the tomato patch I'd be alright! Still improving though and feeling more confident. |
RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
My son has been using the 10 yard drills and it seems to be helping quite a bit.

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Managed to squeak it up a couple points this week, although for awhile I thought I had it by the tail. Fatigue really got me during the last half - I lost 6 points with my first 23 arrows but 13 more on my last 22.[:@] Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
And, as has been mentioned already, this 'contest' is a great motivator for working at personal improvement. I appreciate the effort that Matt puts into this for us; thanks a bunch.:) |
RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Shot much better than last week! broke the 400 mark for the second time.:D

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Good Grief! :( I seem to be creeping in great bounds in the wrong direction. Good thing there's always next week!!! Oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Got my round in tonight. It was the last chance for me this week I think. I have been better but not too bad. Had a couple of 8 flyers tonight. I should have let down. But I just kept aiming and as I squeezed the trigger I felt myself creeping. The shots went off as I was starting toinch forward. That DON"T WORK.[:@]I blame the flu I had last weekend, still not totally back to 100% yet.

RE: Week 5 Scores Talk
Man, I am so happy I could piss myself!!! I shot my best score ever tonight and I am proud!!! I switched releases and just started banging 10's and x's. Really had A hard time with a touch of target panic and i think I have finally got it licked. I have been using a older stan that I have thrown to the ground a few times[:'(]. It was real sloppy and I knew it was hamppering my shooting. My dad has always told me I would get to a point where I would know if it was a good arrow or not. I am finally to that point and knew I could be doing better. My friend let me borrow one of his tru-ball tru tensions and I can't say good enough things about it. It was so much smoother than the older stan four finger I have been using. It really helped me out. here's a pic of my target this week. I am very proud of it and had to show it off.

Not bad for a left handed shooter, shooting his Mom Ma's right handed bow.
Now give me a Hug boy |

Good shooting ruttnutt!
Is that a hunter face in your avatar? I didn't know we had any other field archers on here.........[8D] I'll be joining a league this year for the first time. I've shot quite a few field and hunter facegames on local courses, but never in a league and I'm looking forward to that this summer. |

The club I now belong to here in wisconsin is big into field archery so It looks like I will be too this summer!! I was just out flingin' some at 50yds that day. My real passion is 3-deein'!!! My dad the "sliverflicker" got me into 3-d when I was a little terd and I have been hooked ever since!!! |
