Using backtension to shoot. You can accomplish the same thing with a trigger release though. It's the same muscles just a different mechanism to fire the release.

I can shoot either a thumb trigger or index finger with true back tension with no worries of mashing the trigger, so this doesn't affect me in the least. Most can't do this though because they haven't spent the 10's of thousands of shots that I did on the blank bale and hardwired this into their brain. Most people won't make this commitment.......but when I first started working with a coach 2x years ago I spent almost 4 months without shooting at anything......just blank bale and relearning how to properly executea shot. At this point it doesn't matter what trigger I'm using I still execute a shot in the same way. I guess because most won't do this they find it harder to mash a trigger on command with a thumb trigger than an index finger.

For me the real advantage between the twois that I get a tighter and more consistent anchor point with a thumb trigger with the point of my jawbone fitting neatly between my index and middle finger knuckles. It's two hard bone on bone contact points that are VERY easy to know when they are aligned. My bad shots miss the x ring or just barely land out of the 10 ring on the vegas face and are still in the yellow. I don't miss shots anymore due to a bad anchor point, when I miss it's most often because I'm falling out of rhythm and didn't let down, or I'm trying too hard to aim instead of just trusting my float and making a clean shot.
