Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

Alright guys, I want to get the ball rolling on this thing. Let's shoot for a start date of Sunday 1/6/08. All first week scores will be due 1/13/2007 @ 9pm EST.

[ul][*]
Official sign up will be on thedesignated thread that is pinned to the top of this forum. All sign ups must be posted on the signup thread by1/5/08 at 9pm EST.[/ul]

[ul][*]
This will be a45 arrow 450 Vegas 3 spot league that will be7 weeks long.[/ul]

[ul][*]
We will separate into Open and Hunter classes - No lenses and no stabilizers longer than 12" in the Hunter class[/ul]

[ul][*]
No handicaps applied, we will be using actual scores for all scoring.[/ul]

[ul][*]
Each shooter is allowed1x missed weeks during the6 week league. This missed week will be counted as a 0 with an x count of 0 for that week. Each shooter will be able to drop 1 week oftheir scores at the end of the league, so a single missed week won't matter, we will simply drop the score of your missed week.[/ul]

[ul][*]
Rounds can be shot any day of the week, but scores MUST be posted on the official scores thread NO LATER thanSunday @ 9:00pm EST. If you post a score at 9:01 pm, your score will OFFICIALLY be zero. All scores posted must include your score and X count.[/ul]

[ul][*]
Scores must be submitted in the following format - You may cut and paste this below and then reformat with your score #'s each week:[/ul]

30 - 2x 28 - 1x 28 - 2x
29 - 1x30 - 3x 29 - 0x
28 - 1x27 - 0x30 - 1x
30 - 3x29 - 2x27 - 1x
29 - 2x 30 - 1x 30 - 3x
____________________________
146 - 10x144 - 6x144 - 7x

Total - 434 - 23x

[ul][*]
Please no discussion in the scoring threads, please open another thread for discussion. This makes it much easier for me to sort through and calculate scores and averages.[/ul]

[ul][*]
X’s will be used as tie breakers.[/ul]

[ul][*]
Photos of the target are not required with your score, but we reserve the right to request said photo. Failure to comply will result in a ZERO score. Save those targets![/ul]

[ul][*]
If you truly do not have the financial means available, or the ability to order targets for this competition please feel free to contact me privately.I will ensure that you have targets to use. We don't want anyone to not participate because they don't have targets or the ability to order them. Do this ASAP so that we can ensure time to get these to you before things start. For everyone else, targets can be bought from www.lancasterarchery.com for .50 cents each. Buy yourself 10 of them or so, they are cheap. Link to purchase these is below:

http://www.lancasterarchery.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=53_250&products_id=1359 &osCsid=dffb886b86d00c121fa69d18bd5a1bc1
[/ul]

[ul][*]
Where you shoot your round doesn't matter, but official Vegas style 3 spot targets MUST be used.[/ul]

[ul][*]
If you arenot shooting at an indoor range facility, you must be shooting from a MEASURED 20 yard distance. Thismust be done with the use of either a tape measure or laser rangefinder. [/ul]

[ul][*]
Vegas 3 spot targets are scored as 10X, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 0. You only have to touch the higher scoring line with your arrow shaft to count the higher point. Please refer to the following diagram to see how these targets are scored.[/ul]

[ul][*]
*******Please no cheating. I am very limited in how I can regulate cheating. Please know that this league is supposed to be fun and that I really hope to introduce new people to the sport of target archery with this league. Cheating will cause others to become discouraged and not participate and you will be directly affecting everyone involved by doing this. This is all I will say on this, so please use your conscious when submitting those scores. I have no doubt that we are all mature enough here to follow this to a T.[/ul]

So in short:

- 45 arrows
- 3 arrows per end
- 15 ends per game
- 450 is a perfect score
- Distance of 20 yards (measured)
- 7 weeks total
- Drop your lowest score
- No handicaps
- You must have fun. No exceptions, if you can't do this don't sign up. [8D][/ul]

Looks good Matt...Thanks for the work you and Don put into this each winter.

Sounds good Matt. I was hoping for 30 arrows, they are easier and less timely ;). It should be a blast though!

OK just want to clarify a few things. Can you shoot 45 arrows per week or per day? And are these target ok or not? Ok so i'm not able to upload any pictures i will try again later. But these are the one that have three target faces staked one top of each other in a strait line. The scoring is 10x, 10, 9, 8,7,6 like the picture you posted. And i don't understand you score board.
Here is a link and there is a picture of it. http://www.stringslinger.com/ft340v.html

And we won't be your friends if you do cheat, and nobody wants that. Matt turns into the evil twin....That's just no good for everybody. :D

No, seriously.....There is really just no way to regulate this. Even if we ask for a photo of the target, all someone has to do is take an arrow and punch holes in the target. If your desire to win is that strong, go somewhere else. I just don't want that type of person involved.

With that said.....This is gonna be fun, and I can't wait for Matt to take us all to school. Sure am glad I'm not in the same class as he.....

Yep, that's a Vegas face. Unless Matt knows something I don't (obviously he does) that target is perfectly acceptable.

OK great! And can you explain the score board for me pls? and it's 45 per day or week?

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

Not sure what you need to know about the scoreboard.....But you must shoot all 45 arrows same day. I don't think it matters how long it takes, but you can't drag it out all week.

Scoring is pretty simple. 15 ends of 3 arrows, score the ring you hit.

whitetailbowhunter 12-11-2007 06:39 PM

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

Ok. The thing i don't understand is this.
30 - 2x 28 - 1x 28 - 2x
29 - 1x 30 - 3x 29 - 0x
28 - 1x 27 - 0x 30 - 1x
30 - 3x 29 - 2x 27 - 1x
29 - 2x 30 - 1x 30 - 3x
__________ _________ _________
146 - 10x 144 - 6x 144 - 7x

Total - 434 - 23x
And can you shoot 45 arrows every day and put them in your score? I know i'm asking alot of questions but i to do it right!

Mat

mobow 12-11-2007 06:48 PM

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

Ok....you shoot 3 arrows per end, for a total POSSIBLE score of 30. 3X10=30

Shoot 3 arrows, add score of those 3. Shoot 3 more, add score of those 3. Do that 15 times, add the total, and voila.

The 30 - 3X indicates one end of 3 arrows. Or 28 - 3X, whatever you shoot each end of 3.

A perfect score is 450, w/ 45X. Because, 30X15=450. 30 being a perfect end of 3 arrows, done 15 times is 450.

You can shoot as many rounds of 45 arrows each week you want, but only turn in 1 score each week. The score turned in MUST be shot that week.

I must be retarded...

30 - 2x 28 - 1x 28 - 2x
29 - 1x 30 - 3x 29 - 0x
28 - 1x 27 - 0x 30 - 1x
30 - 3x 29 - 2x 27 - 1x
29 - 2x 30 - 1x 30 - 3x
__________ _________ _________
146 - 10x 144 - 6x 144 - 7x

Total - 434 - 23x

ok so the totals of the first 5 ends are 146, then what are the 10x's?
so like the first end... 30 - 2x, what was actually shot? 3 arrows hit what/where on the target?

That indicates that of the first 15 arrows shot, 10 of them were in the X ring. The 2X indicates that of the 3 arrows shot in that end, 2 were in the X ring.

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

NOW here's where the "cheating" or "selective entry" began last year. Some of us, had the gonads to say to ourselves mentally "OK this is it, with the next arrow I'm starting my HNI League Score" and then we'd shoot our round!! It was a perhaps, a moral high-road but once we started that was it, until we were done!!!!!
Then we later find out many others start and stop..cuz they threw an arrow here or there. Or they'd shoot a round on Monday, Weds, Fri... Pick the best and turn it in. Thats all BS and it does not level the field at all.

I say once you start you start..no it can never be regulated but if you cheat you suck...and you'll know you suck!

GMMAT 12-12-2007 06:52 AM

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

I hear ya, Bob (GR8). You can rest assured.....when I turn one in (score)....it's exactly what I shot. I had a score (1), last year, where I threw the first arrow! Talk about a bad start!

When I saw the scores (a lot of them) turned in week after week.....and I knew I was competing and even WINNING in 3D shoots, here.....but not being able to compete on this internet thing......

Well.....let's just say it took the fun out of it. I'll try it one more time....and I'll also go back to what I've said in the bowhunting forum all along.

It's JUST a spot league. It's not REALLY "Vegas". It's an internet indoor spot league.

Rick James 12-12-2007 07:24 AM

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

I agree 100% guys, and I can guarantee I will be doing the same. I will be using the scores from my local league for my HNI score as well, so there will be another person scoring my targets, as well as the added pressure of being on the line with many other people watching at the same time.

These are things I cannot regulate, but I have 100% faith in everyone here that we can be 100% honest with each other and not get caught up in the competition..........hopefully we can have fun with this and not worry too much about others.

Ya know, MAtt....I'm gonna be shooting in some tournaments this year....and the results are available online for all to see. It would look pretty funny if I shot me a couple 442's, here, but finished 183rd at the weekend's shoot.

Wouldn't it????;)

LOL...why yes, yes it would....But unfortunately, there are those that would try to get away with it. And in this case, they most likely would. I guess I'm a pessimist. I expect it. Maybe I should have more faith in my fellow man, but unfortunate though it is, life has taught me that you just can't do that all the time.

I never have understood why it is so bloody important to look so much better than one really is, ESPECIALLY on an internet forum!!! I just don't get it....We see it each and every year in the bowhunting contest. It's not like ANYONE on these forums gets shut out for shooting a small buck, or not shooting a high score every week. Yeah, ok...we may bust some chops a little, but that's just a form of acceptance. NO ONE HAS EVER been told to leave or ignored for shooting low scores or smaller bucks. I just don't get it.

Shoot what you shoot, and turn it in. The only point to this is to have fun, promote archery, and get to know each other a little better. ALL cheating does is negate all of that. It's no longer fun, it doesn't promote archery in a positive light, and as a result we go our seperate ways and don't get to know each other. What really cracks me up is the cheater doesn't think anyone else knows it....LMAO.....

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Disclaimer: The use of the word "you" is not directed at anyone. It is meant generically for dialouge.

I hope this goes well for everyone and that you have it again next year. I am having some surgery on my foot on Jan. 11th and won't be back on it for 2 - 4 weeks.[&o] Probably won't be doing much shooting until March.[:'(] Looks like it would be a great time. I had fun with last years and picked up the ProTec for spots (first target bow ever) because of it. Well good luck everyone.

No rules on target height, anything that works for you is legal as long as it's a measured 20 yards from where you shoot.

I've never shot a round of 3-d in my life! (officially) This looks like great fun, good guys too!I need to force myself to shoot during the cold winter months. I will be shooting outside at my home. I know I wont shoot some of the scores you guys will, but its gonna be good for me to get the practice in.

Thanks Matt for setting this up. This looks like a lot of fun.

Rick, I want to thank you for all of your work putting this together. This will be the first for my son and I (with new bows, no less), so don't expect much. Still, we are really looking forward to the competition. I used to shoot some local recurve competitions, but that was 25 years ago. Good luck to all.

Hey there fellas. My name is Steve and I am kinda new to this forum but was interested in signing up for the fun. Sounds like a great excuse to get out and shoot my bow:). Any way, how do I go about signing up for this league? Do I need to let you know what I'm shooting and such like. In other words if I'm shooting a target bow or a hunting rig? If someone could get back to me with this infoI would really appreciate it.

thanks pastorowc(Steve)

Pastorowc,

There is a sign-up thread posted in this forum....I went ahead and signed you up. This isn't a binding contract or anything. Just helping you out.

Other than that, you are set and ready to roll. You can read the "Indoor League Rules" for more information. Let Matt, (Rick James) mobow, or anyone else know if you have any other questions about the league and the format.

All you will need is a spot with 20 yards and some Vegas 3-Spot Targets. The rules do a better job of explaining things.

You can shoot with either a hunting bow....or if you have a target bow, or bow with some longer stabilizers, scopes, etc, you can use that as well, you will just be placed in a different class I believe.

Sure, Scott....I'll elaborate....

If the majority of guys in here are like me....and admittedly not very well versed and honed in their 3D and target skills.....you'd "think" I'd fit in .....middle of the pack....or somewhere thereabouts.

I finished BOTTOM of the pack....the whole way through. Now....I could just "suck" that bad. It's possible.

You can elaborate, too.....but answer me this.....DO you think there was some pencil whippin going on last year?

I don't know of any preconfigured score sheets,I usually just write my score for each end on the target as I pull my arrows, and then keep the target when I'm done to reference the numbers and add upwhen I'm done.

Rick James 12-13-2007 02:39 PM

RE: Official Rules - 2008 HNI Vegas League

I will say even though I can't prove it, there was definitely some pencil whipping last year. With that said, in looking at the locals around here in my leagues, you see a pretty good spread on the scores right in line with what we saw here last year. Also, just because someone is pretty good at 3D means nothing indoors......it really doesn't mean anything other than they won't completely suck indoors. I'm a MUCH better 3D shooter than my indoor scores would indicate, usually top 3 at any state/regional type event but in my local indoor leagues I'm middle of the pack at best.
