I hunted my farm today with two friends. At 1015, past time thinking that I set everyone in the wrong spot, I spotted a v. nice 140 class buck. He and another buck were chasing two does in a thicket near my house, lol. The buck was a horse, with plenty of stickers. After an hour of inaction, I got upwind of the thicket. The does snuck out the other end where one of my partners was stationed. He said one doe passed 10 yds, but the big buck passed 35 yds and wouldn't stop. Oh well, at least I don't have to post another pic of a partner with his trophy, lol.

Still a great time to be in the woods...

Man am I down in the dumps on God's trick,but am glad I didn't injure him. The day started of cold and windy and a little snow. I felt the feeling AGAIN[8D]. Wow 2 times in a week,well it started almost like the other day got on stand at 7:10 and this time the buck was right on me thinking I was a doe walking through the bush but I was up getting my safety belt on:D.
Dang animals won't even let me get belted in:)nothing but grunts all around me till 7:45 when all hell broke lose,right away I new it wasn't a deer breaking everything in it's way and out came a young bull moose that stuck around till 9:10. Bedded about 47 yards from me in the willows. I prayed for it to come my way so I can fill my tag and my freezer[:'(]. Didn't happen, anyways a great buck came in and the bull took off and I watched the biggest buck I've ever seen in the wild walk out where the bull was bedded. He was biggerthan my 172 buck I took and wowzer ,the mass was incredible, a perfect 5x5 and out past his nose. I wasreadybeforehe got here:Dand he got here fast and was smelling my footsteps all the way to my stand before he turned behind my stand and up the hill.
He left as fast as he came and I was now thinking what do I have to do to get another good animal? The bucks are up and moving now up here and the rut should be starting with in minutes. The big boys don't show up when their aren't does in estrus. Well I hada few minutes to let this all set in before I heard the same buck come back after circling my stand from away out. I watched him again as I waited,down the slope he came and stoppedat 13yards in front of my stand and sniffed where I turned to come to my tree.Perfect shot angle and all I drew and what the heck[:'(].My peep site was blocked[:@]. I let off and he stayed still as I drew again in disgust,this time itdid the same thing[:o].
I held and thought I can't let'm walk[>:][X(].I did the cardinal sin and released. He bolted 2 bounds to 25 yards and stood their wondering what the heck the noise was. I looked in digust, I thought I saw him flinch with the hit. He stayed for a few more minutes and then walked off.Mean while I was pulling my hair out and saying I should have stayed with my no peep site. I twisted my peep a bit and saw that it caught some bush as I was walking in the dark to my stand. Drew back and bingo:eek:I was back in action.It was only 10:15 now.
I felt it was a God thing that allowedthat deer to walk, telling me not to shoot if I'm not sure of the shot,DAAAAAA. What an idiot[&o]. Sorry team. Well I go down and get my arrow and check it,a clean miss whew I say,lesson learned. Then I have to do cardinal sin 2 go #2 by my stand.
I do it in disgust and cover it with dirt and leaves and no sooner, I'm belted back in and I hear another buck comming.LMAO the rut is perfect time to be on stand cause what you see and do can mistify you as it did just then. This 2 1/2 year ole 4x3 walks up along my stepsright tothe spot I just crapped in.LMAO and he sniffs it and I'm waiting for him to bolt,well he turns and follows my steps to the base of my tree and lifts his tail and poops too. I've must say I've seen it all. I got out due to the high winds at 1:30 and saw 6 different bucks and 2 were jaw droppers with the encounter of the one that I could make out clearly. The thing I noticed is 2 of these bucks were dominant bucks any where else and here too,why didn't I see any does???? Their not in estrus is my guess.
Keep at er guys, we'll get a good one yet to post and be safe. Tomorrow is about the same for weather for me here as today,windy gusting to 65 and-6. Be safe and God Bless. I don't know if I can handle another day like today!!!

Well Today Was A Bust
Compared to the last week it was anyways, the wind was in the high 60's and it was only -9 but with the windchill factor it was-17.I froze my little butt off and for what ? I saw my 1st buck at 9:05 and a shooter next week but not this week,bout a 120 4x4. Then at 9:15 I was still watching the 4x4 freshen some scrapes when I heard the crunching of leaves behind me. I turn and low and behold theres my 150 buck, I call star. He's a good 150 this year,I've been watching this buck grow from a 1 1/2 year old when he was a 4x1,at 2 1/2 he was a 4x2 then this year he's a 4x5 ,but the 5 are shaped into a star and their all 8 inches long. His right main beam extends past his nose and is thick, I wanted this buck so bad the last 2 years to get him out of the gene pool. Man was I wrong , I wanted to shoot him bad today. But the Lord gave him an extended life when he allowed him to walk away behind the seclusion of branches and bush[:@].He came in the way he was supposed to but turned early,as I watched he actually got stuck for a few seconds trying to crawl under the fence which I thought, why didn't he jump it,LMAO[:-]. I stayed till 11:30 and had to pack up and leave as it was way to windy. I checked out my other stand and the dang tree broke off just above the stand. So I walked out and left. Tomorrow is another day guys and it's supposed to be +1 and calm:D. Can't wait to get back in the saddle. Hope you guys are having better luck than I did today.

Another Long Day
Well Jack & Andy, I guess thats all that's left to our team huh! LOL:D. I got in my stand with a blinding 15 minute snow storm as I was changing in the feild, figures huh! [:o]. Got on stand at the regular 7:10 am and nothing till 8:30 when a doe showed up and then 2 more came around the corner. I said okay now where's the big guy,should be in tow right! He was but it was the 4x3 again and he walked right in front of me cause he knows he has a free pass till Monday:eek:.
He won't show next week will he[:'(], The does fed around me till 9 then a yote showed up and I let one fly on my 40 yard pin[X(]. To low ,man was he gone in a flash LMAO,ranged him after at 43 and under shot him and lost my arrow to boot, lucky dog![>:]. Got warm in the afternoon to +4 and that was it for the day guys. I'm bewildered at the does as no buck was bothering them. Not sure if they have been bred or the rut hasn't started yet???? Not sure if I'll hunt tomorrow, I should but I need to get a few things done around the house as the wife is giving me the ole stink eye trying to make me feel bad at this time of year as always:(. Talk to you's tomorrow guys.
