Brett, The company I work for is a oil and gas contractor that is mostly a overseas company, however they have quite a few small barge rigs in the gulf. I am a electrical supervisor that specializes in SCR's and VFD's....It leads me away from home about 6 months a yearbut I get the other 6 off,I couldn't see myself doing a 9-5 again, at least not for a while...I truly enjoy it even though being on the maintenance side of things can be crazy from time to time...

Curtis-That is very cool, I'll have to let him read this thread the next time he's here. I know what your saying on going back to 9-5, there is no way I could do it. Our businesses keep us hopping and we work some long/odd hours, but I wouldn't trade the freedom for anything.

Brett, You in the oilfield too?
No, I own a couple of small businesses here in Southern Illinois.

My buddy owns/runs the two drilling rigs.

Good to see all had good weekends, spent a couple days out on the boat soaking up the rays and a few chioce beverages.

Also got out Saturday am to check out some Conservation ground (2500 acres) close to home. Jumped a buck bedded in some dead-fall right about the spot I had picked out for a stand after scouting this past spring. He was still in velvet, nothing huge but was still good to see.

Hi guys

Well the little guy and I headed up to the grandparents ranch to check the trail camera and see if we could get him his first buck with his bow. There weren't as many bucks as I would have thought on camera and none I wanted to put my bow tag on so it was up to the little guy to come thru. The wind was aweful blowing in different directions every day. I only had one blind out so I ended up moving it 3 times in four days, did I mention it was 95-100 every day..yuk. Anyways it cooled way down on sunday afternoon, the wind had switched again while we sat and I thought we were done for, but with about an hour of light left it switched again to a perfect direction. About that time a small forky and a real nice 4x4 came down the draw headed our way. The 4x4 was a perfect first buck I told him, it skirted by our blind at 12 yards "I had it brushed in really well" he was at full draw. I stopped him broadside and he put a great shot on him right behind the shoulder high in the lungs. He took off and jumped a fence, and from there he went into some really thick brush and trees.
After watching the video I saw he hit him well but penetration wasn't the best so we let him go over night. It had cooled down into the 40s but we awoke to heavy rain, what a mess. We looked all day but I couldn't find even one drop of blood, do to the high hit I suppose. We did find the arrow and the slick trick had a chunk of lunk still hanging on it and had penetrated about 9 inches. So I knew he had taken out at least one lung. Long story short we looked really hard but came up with nothing, I felt so bad for him. He was so excited after the shot, at least I have the moment all on video I guess!
I think I'll wait till the snow flies before we try it again with him and his lower poundage. I'm headed out here right now, guess we'll see what happens.
Here's the buck my son shot on trail camera this past week. Best of luck to you all!

That would have been an incredible first buck! - Sorry to hear that you could not find him! - That is one of the tough things that hunting will utimately bring - tougher still at the early stages of hunting - and more difficult for the young ones!

Let him know (and I am sure you have) to keep his chin up and that we are thinking about him!
