That's one great thing about Illinois. Our main gun season only runs for 7 days and its split into 2 seasons. The rest of the year (even muzzleloader season which is this weekend) is open to bow. I really think that this weekend is going to be a good one as they have started moving into the food sources pretty good. However, I won't be out there. I'm going to hit it pretty good again here in a few weeks though.

I'm hitting the farm back up tomorrow afternoon. I have to get a little christmas shopping done in the morning and then I'm rushing home and getting my gear.

We have snow on the ground, so if I am lucky enough to have a doe present a shot I'm going to let her have it. Never shot a deer in the snow before with my bow so thats the goal for me right now.

Anyone else hunting?

Had a pretty exciting hunt today. Freezing rain moved in so I climbed out of my tree and began to walk around some field edges. I spotted a doe and a fawn and attempted a little stalk. I closed the gap to within 60 yards on the big doe and the fawn busted me and off they went.

Try #2 was a little closer of a call. I had 5 does spotted with 1 seperated from the rest of the group. By the time I got within range she had moved off but the others were coming by at about 40 yards. I picked out the lead doe and tried to stop her. By the time she finally stopped she was facing very sharply quartering towards me and I didn't want to take the shot. I will try to make it out again possibly Sunday afternoon weather permitting.

Things are really sloooooow here in terms of buck action. I have not even seen a buck anywhere hunting or driving, day or nightsince my encounter with the 8 pointer.

I bet that spot and stalk was fun. That is tough to do. You came close though.

I shot my flintlock. Man that is fun. I cant wait to get out and give it a go. Ill prob be out day after Christmas. I have not seen a buck in a while. Seems as if things have slowed down drasticly. I dont think I have seen one since October!

I did put my trail camera out this weekend. I put it out over one of our small food plots. I have not had it out since beginning of archery so I am very anxious to check it out. Ill check it on the 24th.

Good luck if anyone is doing any late season hunts!

Was out with the flintlock on Friday. No luck. My dad and his buddy both missed legal bucks. Where were these bucks all year!

Had the trail cam back out as well. Got a decent 8pt (if he had both sides) and a 4 pt fighting like no tomorrow. Ill post a pic once i get them on my computer. I was pretty shocked seeing them fighting. They were really going at it too.
