Damn did you shoot that guy through the neck or did you cut it to bleed it out. I couldn't see an entrance or exit on the vital area. Shame Shame![:o]
Yeah that was a lucky accident. When he stopped walking he was about 25 yards out, (there was branch between us about 12 ft off the ground) he started sniffing and looking up in my direction. I was at full draw and was affraid he was gonna bug out, so I shot. I thought i missed because I saw my arrow hit the limb but it sounded like I hit him. Anyway he whirled around and ran into a thicket about 20 yards from where he was standing and was just thrashing around for a minute or two, but I couldnt see him. I waited an hour and went to get my arrow. The arrow was clean but a heavyblood trail started a few feet from the arrow. He didnt go far. Guess I hitthe jugular or something. Luck but I'll take it any day.

jmbuckhunter,
There aren't really any agriculture fields near my hunting property. There are a few a mile or so away, but I don't have any access to that property. I have the feeders out to help with nutrition and so I can take inventory of what's on my place. As you know, the bucks that frequent those feeding stations during summer and early fall move on or become nocturnal within a few weeks of season opener. As for the property I hunt, it is around 600-700 acres and consists ofbrush coveredhills with wooded draws with a few open pastures. The native brouse is good, butthere are very few oak trees on the property. The lack of bushhogging hascausedpersimmon, blackjack, summak, and locust trees to over-run the property. In my opinion that makes for great deerhabitat, but can also make it difficult to hunt due to the thickness of the property. There isalsoa large piece of property (10 sections) that borders my property on one side and they practice QDMA.

I am using the Mathews Outback that is in my signiture. During gun season I'll use a 44mag and a 12 slug gun.. But most of the time I have my bow in my hands..
Looking at new bows, can't make up my mind quite yet.. I really like my bow and shoot good with it so I'm not in a hurry to change.

JD Chris, sounds like you have to catch em coming and going. Pretty thick bedding areas around there.

At least you have some help letting the bucks get older with the QDMA guys and all of the land they control.
