Well what's left of Hurrican Gustav made it's appearance yesterday evening. It's been raining for, oh.......about 15 hours straight, and shows no signs of slowing anytime soon. We've gotten a lot of rain.....Which makes my river bottom spot quite difficult to get to. I've somehow got to pull the camera, and clear off a tree, and I've got 11 days to get it done. I can't believe the summer went this quickly. 11 days, and bow season is upon me.

And on another note......I was working at the shop last night, and was taking some pounds off of a new Reflex Charger.....Well, that limb bolt was........really, really tight. I busted 3/16 T-handle allen wrench, and I'm fairly sure I've broken my finger. And yes, it's my trigger finger. It hurts like hell.....but I can move it, and typing isn't too difficult, so maybe I've merely bruised it badly......but whatever, it hurts. Anywho, got the bow set up, and another happy customer headed home with dreams of laying down a monster w/ his brand new bow.

I got up this morning and went into the garage to drink my coffee. B4 I get dumb comments, my garage has a huge window facing the big pond. As my wife and I sat there, a doe showed up and started eating the acorns below an oak tree. We sat there and watched her for 15 minutes until a squirrel showed up and got too close to her and she ran off. It was fun to watch.

Mobow, don't do anything stupid that will affect your ability to get another buck until AFTER the season!

mobow, i hope it quits raining for you down there so your able to get into thatstand.sounds like a good spot in that river bottom. remanants of the hurrican are suppose to even effect us a little bit, but it dosent look like were supposed to get too much rain as its track is going east of us here.

Ouch..that sounds painfull man,you better baby that fingerand no moreworking on bows until after seasonYou might wanna get it checked by the doc. I hope it dont effect your shooting at all.

Coop, yer an old retired fart, so I know you've got nuttin but time......But, how about the rest of us? What kind of vacation are ya'll taking this year for hunting, if any?

I'm off every Monday in October, and I'm off beginning November 5, go back to work on November 17.

Actually Mobow, I don't qualify as retired until I get a retirement check! It's two months late now. If I don't get it soon, I won't have to worry about hunting, I'll have to be finding someplace to live.[&o] I will be hunting every chance I get though. I predict I'll be posting points on October 25th.

Now that I have put up when I think I'll be scoring, lets hear predictions out of the rest of the team on when they'll score.

I have a pretty good feeling about October 25 or 26.....If that doesn't do it, Nov. 6 or 7.

Hope you get that check soon buddy. I know the spot you're in, and it's no fun. Why is the government SOOOO slow on issuing US money, but we better be ricky tick on getting it to them?? Bastards.

I don't know why. Personally, I believe that Americans have lost a lot of our work ethic. People in customer service just want a paycheck and don't want to do what they are paid for. Kinda like the Dire Straits song that talks about "Money For Nothing". Yesterday I threatened to get my Senator involved and about 10 minutes ago they called me and told me that I will be receiving all my back pay on the 8th. Monday we'll see if they are blowing smoke or really got it done.

Well as for me I am going out the weekend of the 13th and 20 of sept. I will have 3 evening hunts and 4 morning hunts in those 2 weekends. My wife and I are taking a "fall colors" trip to New England leaving Sept 25th and getting back October 3rd. It was the only time she could make it work around her kids fall schedule and it works great for me. I will be back in the woods every weekend in October except the weekend of October 18th. Wisconsin has a 4 day doe only gun season that weekend. I don't want to bow hunt in blaze orange and I don't want that to be when I see the but buck because even bow hunting is doe only. Then the best is that my son is trying to get leave starting the October 29th to November 12th. If he gets that we will be going out as much as we can without over hunting it. I have enough vacation to take off every day he is here so vacation time is not an issue. After that there is only one weekend before the regular deer gun season opens on November 22nd. I hunt that with my Dad (he does not bow hunt). That usually ends my deer season as I have gone out late season and I have yet to ever see anything. Deer get hit real hard in our CWD zone around me in that gun season.

As for when I will score I will take anytime but I really hope it happens when Matt is home. Not sure how to explain it to those who don't have kids. I loved to go to hockey games and then Matt started playing hockey at 5. Totally lost interest in going to college or pro games because it was so much more fun to watch him play the game. I used to have a few "hunting buddies" but again once Matt could come with they didn't understand "bringing a kid" and we went off on our own. Now I either hunt with him or by myself. My step son has tried it but it just was not for him.

AF I am guessing that fire you lit was not big enough. Throw some gas on it and see what happens. You must know someone in a high place that can get something done for you. I really think it sucks that someone like you gives all those years to our country and then they screw with you now. Best of luck with it all.

What kind of equipment is everyone using this year? I'm extremely fortunate to work part time in an archery pro shop, so I'm afforded quite a few goodies that I wouldn't have otherwise. I'm also still perfecting my clothing and what I bring along in my pack. The only stand I have is a climber (the most versatile) so I don't bring a backpack. I use a fanny pack, so space is limited. I still want one that I can lash some of my clothing to....

Anyway, I'm shooting XX78 SuperSlam 2512's with AfterShocks on the business end of things. 100 grains with a 2" cutting diameter. I'm excited to see how well they work. I'm pushing those with an '08 Hoyt VectrixPlus, and using an HHA OL5519 sight. I shoot ALOT @ 60 yards, and I'll not hesitate to shoot one @ 50, as long as he holds still just long enough for me to range him with a laser.

I stocked up on all of my scent elimination the other day.....All I've really got to do now is wash all of my clothes, spray down my stand and get my fanny pack all packed up. I'm pretty much ready to go; I can have all of that finished in an evening. I'll be hunting around my home in east central MO, as well as northern and southern MO.
