So far I've been mostly bow hunting, but I went out with the rifle yesterday. My cousin and I spent all day in the mountains looking for any size whitetail or mule deer buck, as both are now open. All we saw was one mule deer doe and a real nice bull moose. Unusual for this area, as a day will normally yield numerous deer sightings. We figure to get out there again by next weekend, and then hopefully have a better day.

I'll be headed off to visit some relatives for a couple days about 130 miles away, on Tuesday. That's where I got my mule deer last year and that's the objective again this time. Gonna start packing the 7mm and all the other essentials today so I'll be good to go with no delays. Any luck from anyone else latlely?

Well, I got back this afternoon from a 3 day hunt; no good news for the team. I saw around 25 deer in all, but only 1 buck. It was a spike that I came up on at 10 yards as I crested a hill and it had no idea I was there for at least a minute. Then it looked up, its eyes went big as saucers, and it split in a hurry. It was just too small get many steaks off, so I'll keep on looking. Rifle season isn't over until Nov 24.
