I didn't "really" find the deer, last year, until the acorns started falling. I'm not worried. When the acorns fall.....I'll be sitting in the biggest "food plot" you could ever find. If it's acorns they want.....I know where they'll be.

We didn't hear from Troy last night.
I'm thinking that might be b/c of a kill.
Gotta have faith.
GMMAT, it is wierd how sometimes when they aren't moving you could be in a spot where
you saw 20 deer and see none. I thought this little cold front would have gotten them moving.
Maybe the does know your after them. [8D]
Rob, keep at it, sounds like you have plenty of deer to hunt, now the trick will be which one of you figures
out the other first.[8D]

Will, I wish you were right!
No big boy last night. He didnt show his face on my side of the mountain. The wind was perfect going in and according to the FORCAST it would be all evening.. At 6:30 while on stand the wind did a complete 180 and starting blowing right out to where I didnt want it to...
I got on my phone internet and checked the wind direction and sure enough it did a 180... GRRRRRRRRRRR so I contimplated getting out of there but figured if thebuck was close he'd really hear me and pin point me. Scent lok suit and all I don't believe many old bucks will tolerate any human odor.. Now I cant even say he was going to show up there last night since hes basically the only deer I am hunting in this 100 acre area.. or so.. Nothing showed all night..
I did get to watch the elk herd in my binocs for a good hour... I am leaving them alone until Hia gets here.. Or unless the come wandering by... I saw that two new bulls showed up.. so now theres a 5x6, 5x5(big bodied) and 4x5... along with about 6 spikes hanging out on the perimeter...
Back at it tonight... I really hope I have a southern wind by 3-4 pm tonight so I can go hunt the 4x5 and give Stretch a break for a day..if not I am going to hunt the Stretch buck on the other side of the ridge..down in a big draw where I know he uses and comes down through some evenings..
If I get a solid North wind..I will be right back were I was last night.. but I am gonna move in closer.. this time..

Good luck, Troy (and others).
I have a light east wind, this evening.....and a chance to slip out a little early and get into my honey hole without disturbing too much woods.
I'm gonna take advantage of it.
My hunting area (for those interested) is only about 1 mile in length (maybe a little less).....and approx. 1/4 mile wide. I hunt a man-made break line (parks system) abuttment. So.....when I get a N wind....I'm screwed unless I want to hunt a fringe, "end" spot. Any other wind and I can take a few more chances. S/SE or SW is PERFECT.
I can go into the edge of my honey hole on the west side this evening.....and approach from that side, as well.
Just fodder for the team........

back at ya Jeff... Good luck!
I always like to hearabout others terrain, hunting conditions, strategyetc.. Good stuff Jeff..we can all learn from each other..
I've been fortunate enough to hunt, Montana, Alberta, Idaho, and gonna hunt ND ..soon..I absolutely loveexperiencing different terrain and taking time to decipher how the whitetails within it use the habitat/feed/cover, wind currents, thermalsand terrain features to their advantage.. One thing I always enjoy about having guys out here is hearing their feedbackabout my home turf...

Ok, now it is really getting close. About 33 more hours and I can shoot a deer. Tomorrow will be a long day, followed by a somewhatsleepless night. Then it is open season.
I may be setting mobo up in one of my stands this weekend too. The predicted wind will be wrong for hunting his droptine buck, so he might pay me a visit. Gonna see if I can get him his first buck. That would be cool!
I have a couple of spots where that could happen.

Troy's gonna put us on top with Stretch tomorrow. [8D]
I wasn't in the Contest last year. Is this a slow start? I think we have about 500 hunters, but
so far about 5 entered deer and it seems like a good bit of people already started their seasons.
I know it's not the November slaughter, but was just wondering. Kind of changing my perception
that a lot of people take archery deer early b/c they are in summer pattern and haven't gone into
hiding due to pressure.
John, that's a good feeling when you can't sleep. Only about 4,320 hours here. [&:]
Germ,
Saw you took a liking to the Striker. That's my new BH. Shot it again tonite and dead on.
Didn't have confidence in my old bh and I want to have the confidence of knowing my arrow
will go where I point it. That's the last thing I want to be worried about.
