I went to a spot back behind the house I hadn't hunted yet. It was a perfect wind for this setup. Taking my scent out over the 50 foot dropoff to the creek. It is an oak ridge above the creek back there. On the way in I see lots of fresh dropping and a couple of rubs. I am pumped and ready for action. But no deer tonight. I did find out I need to clear my shooting lanes out again. I hadn't gotten around to clearing this stand yet.

A view over the cliff, where my scent was headed.

To my left where the oaks are, and I need to retrim my lanes.

Behind me and right, the thick stuff, bedding area.

Here is a view of my stand from yesterday, wher I saw the buck before daylight. I am setup on aditch with trails coming from a picked corn field.

This is the lane he crossed. Just in front of the last big oak in the pic.

A view up the ditch. You can see some of the trails.

Across the ditch, more trails.

And behind me to the big woods.

I have killed a few good deer herebefore. And I will hunt this spot again. None of them knew I was there.

John great picks and thx for sharing.

Well it was a great weekend, here are the stats

4 does
5 1.5 bucks
1 2.5 9 point

I did not pass on the 9, I decide 50 yds out through the bino he was not what I am looking for. I chose not to try and shoot him, which is way different than a pass IMO.

This brings my total to

10 different bucks so far.

8 1.5
1 2.5
1 3.5

Sill no contact with the big toads, next week I am in the stand all day!!!

Hey guys, just checking in. I had a great weekend of hunting with my brother. He passed up 16 different bucks in 5 hunts with his rifle. I bowhunted and had 4 different bucks right under my stands over the weekend. One really nice 5x5 that I finally saw again from this summer. Hes a 3.5 year old that would score in the mid 130's gross. I didnt see any of my big boys. I heard a TOTAL of 5 rifle shots all weekend. Which was absurd.. the deer and elk were not moving in the open..only in the bedding areas that we were hunting...

Rob also saw the 5x5 and is kicking himself for not shooting him... but he didnt because he said he didnt want to ruin my bowhunt for the 4x5 ( I was sitting about 300 yards away ) with a gun shot ...he said if it would have been a bigger buck he would have drilled him.. LOL

My Landowner jumped all over the tresspassing issue, got more signs that specifically say.. NO HUNTING OR TRESSPASSING and they made phone calls. They also made it clear that the next step would be to prosecute. So basically they wanted to warn them this one time. The word is out and I didnt see a soul in my once great area.. We saw half of the bucks above back in there, so it was a welcomed sign that the deer are getting comfortable again. I will be hunting tonight.

BTW Troy I booted off two Tresspassers on Sunday[:@] I smelled them smoking from my stand, right in my sancturary that I have to been in since March.

It got a little verbal when one smarted off to me. I must of struck a nerver when I ask him how much his double wide cost[8D] I called the DNR and gave them thereMC number.

John and Gary,

Sounds like the action is heating up in your parts. If our team weren't a bunch of die-hard, picky
bowhunters, we would be on the board (espeically HuntmUp with 150"). Trust me, I'm not urging or
expecting you guys to take smaller deer, just that having a bunch of trophy hunters might be giving
us a slow start.

Troy, I'm glad you got some resolution. Probably not as much as you were hoping for the bastards,
but if it resolves the problem then that is probably good enough.

I'm going tomorrow night (raining with cold (relative here) front today), and am hitting it hard this weekend.

We have some really cool weather coming by Wed. I can hunt every evening this week and will through the weekend ... I am tempted to do an all day sit this weekend just to see if the big boys are up andmoving only during mid day..

The absence of rifle shots this weekend blew my mind. I usually count dozens on opening weekend of elk.. The critters we were hunting were right in their beds as we watched several bucks bed down via binocs and the naked eye.. one bachelor group bedded 70 yards from my stand all day and got up that evening and fed by me again once I came back in..I got some nice photos too of a few younger bucks standing under a stand I could see but wasnt in.. I love my new camera...I will get some photos downloaded tonight after hunting..

Dozens? Hah. Troy, you really need to come out here just once, just to see what it's like. You'd DIE.

3 years ago, I was out for the PA rifle opener in Greene County, sitting with my pap before he hung up the hunting boots. I heard over 400 shots before noon. It's a holocaust. ...and that's with the constant buzz of traffic drowning out the background noise. If it was truly quiet, you'd probably hear 1000.

When I'm hunting the northern PA hardwoods, I usually only hear about 100 shots through the first day. It's kinda peaceful up there.
