Well, it's another dead deer. This guy was even smaller then the last one. Had to have just lost it's spots last week. Who knows may still have them. I just got him back up under the light so I'll look closer. I'm having fun with this target practice. The real deal is coming up soon. I hope everyone is getting out and seeing something. After I dropped this bambi a little 6 point came in and hung around it for about 20 mins trying to figure out what happened. He walked off and then came backjust after the sun was dipping. He stood broadside almost in the same spot but he was too small to waste for this contest.

Hey, just brought bambi down to the cat place and WOW! As I drove up they were processing another deer that was dropped off. All I can say is what a HOTTIE working the knife. She was blonde hair early 20's and a sport model bod! Anyone else want to donate your deer now?

Well guys, I have been non-existant on this board for quite some time now. These last few months have really been busy. . .I apologize for my lack of consideration when signing up for this contest.

Last Thursday, Oct. 25th, my wife and I welcomed into our family another healthy and wonderful son. His name is Caleb and my son Mason turned 3earlier in the month as well. This is a joyful and stressful time for my wife and I. I have been hard-pressed to find time to get into the woods, this year has just not been kind to me climbing into a stand.

As I mentioned around late summer, student teaching has been keeping me busy, as well as my family farm. Any free time now has been spent with the family and personally, I wouldn't trade the time I spend with them for anything else at the current moment. In the past, I have really put myself first in way too many situations.

So, with that said, I hope I can get out sometime in the next few weeks but I make no promises.

I hope everyone's season is going well. I will try and check in more often and will do my best to get into a stand sometime soon.

Take care and be safe

God Bless,

Dave

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Well guys, I had an exciting morning today. It's started out with a major SNFU because I was hunting in my friends backyard and when I got to the tree I realized I didn't have my climbing band for my stand. Must have fallen out in the woods while dragging the little deer out. Oh well, I'll get it when I get home.

So I hopped into this real old metal shed he doesn't use anymore and just put my stand on the floor with the seat up. Just after it started to get light out, I watched about 2 dozen deer just walk up from the bottom and must have gone past my friends house. Then about 15 mins later a doe walked by and I heard a buck grunting. It was the bigger of the pretty 8 pointers he has in his yard. He was 20 yrds. I drew on him but waited due to some branches in my way. While I waited, I debated. He really was a pretty deer. He was around a low 130 class. Possibly a 135. I decided I wasn't going to mount him and so I passed on the shot. About 20 mins later he stood broadside 10 yards away. Dang he wanted to be shot. He gave me one more shot about 20 mins later out the back window. He will be pretty next year. Any how saw all three eights running around chasing more deer then I could count. While I was watching them, I heard deer right out side the shed eating acorns. A little bambi stood 10 yrds broadside and "Whack"! she ran off out of sight. 6 more Does moved up broadside. I knocked another arrow and dropped a good size Does. She ran down into the woods and the others stood there still trying to figure out what's happening. I almost knocked another arrow a shot a third. I could have emptied my quiver this morning and shot 6 deer.

Went looking for the little one because I saw momma drop. Went to the side of his house saying, she should be right here. Didn't see it, then turned around and under the bush she was.

I'm hunting my honey hole all day tomorrow or weds. Should be a real good hunt. Hopefully, I will see a shooter. I've got a good feeling this year.

Good luck guys, let's start putting them on the board.

Update, I was going out to gut these guys and there was a Does in my moms backyard. I drew on her but she moved so I couldn't get the shot. I'm loving life right now.

Dang Guys, What happened to you all? I hope your putting in the hours.

I spent the last two nights and this morning in Big Buck Territory. I didn't see anything big though. Ihad a few does, a basket 8 on Monday night. Last night because of the winds, I only had a 3 point and a few more does come uderneath me. I didn't shoot any does because in these areas I wait for big bucks. A friend of mine who went out shot a pretty 8 point. About the same size as the 8 I let walk monday morning. He was around a 135. He's getting a europe mount done on him. This morning got in the woods later then desired because my other friend got lost. Saw a whole bunch of does and a small 8 point that would have gone in the mid 120's. Thanksgiving week, I will shoot what ever buck I can because I havea few days of gun tags available and I need to shoot 2 bucks then and a few more does to get my money's worth for the bonus buck stamp.

Sounds good fieldmouse!

I will be putting in a half day tomorrow. The last few times I've been out have been much better as far as numbers go. The bucks are starting to slip up too. I have had 3 nice does within 12 yards of me, but nothing has worked out. The hunting gets better in the bow zones once the rifle hunting starts in because they all get pushed into the smaller chunks of woods...it will only get better!

Hey team,

I whacked a doe last night...thought I hit her good, blood soaked arrow from a pass through...waited a couple hours and got on her track to find a marginal (at best) blood trail. Tracked her 100 yards to her first and only bed, then kept going for another 4-500 yards across two roads luckily stumbling onto droplets of blood...gave up after canvasing the area for 3 hours this morning

The only thing I can think is low through the brisket barely missing vitals...[:@]

Got back to the house after tracking only to see a nice 6-8 pointer trotting through the woods with his nose to the ground at 10am (couldnt do anything, no sunday hunting in Maine [&:])

I will be hitting it hard Tuesday-Saturday this week!

Hey, been out one solid day. I have a friend with me so I put him in my favorite place in my honey hole. He was surrounded by deer all morning. At 10 am he a a big deer walk right under him. He had a big left main beam with the tines to match. The right for some reason only grew half way out. Anyway, it got right under his stand and spooked. He jumped back about 15 yards and my friend missed him because he jumped the arrow. I only saw a few basket 8's and a bunch of does. We'll see what tomorrow will bring us.

Happy hunting, let's put points up guys!

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Guy's, I had a very fun week. I brought a friend north with me and spoiled him rotten with deer. He couldn't believe the number of bucks he saw let alone the number of deer. He even got to see the deer that was bigger then any other deer he had seen live in the woods (he has 30 years hunting under his belt). He said it was way bigger then any of my friends deer on his wall.

For me, I had a big eight point last night 40 yds. He was very pretty. I wish he had a little more mass but I was going to shoot him. The broad side he gave me had two little branches at 20 yds between him and I. I truely think I would have been fine but I choose not to shoot and get a better shot. The wind started to reverse direction as the sun dipped and his Doe, was on my side of the creek got spooked and ran back to where she came from and he followed. It kills me not to have taken that shot but I'm OK with the decision. He was very nice. Had a solid 18" spread maybe 20" with decent tines. Not sure I would have had him mounted, I wish he had more mass. My guess he was just shy of 140. The freaky thing was, before I saw him and the doe, I swear I heard a deep grunt from behind me, down wind. Then I saw those two in the other direction and thought I miss judged where the grunt came from. Anyway, the monster my friend sawcame from behind me or at least from my direction. Shot gun starts this weekend for a few weeks. I hope they don't screw that place up. There are still a ton of deer. The good news is that's it's only one spot. Plenty more out there.

Forgot to add, I did pop another little one this morning. For the record, I'm going to process him myself and not give him to the catsbecause my son asked me too.

Sounds awesome fieldmouse!

I scored on a smallish buck, he will probably only score 50-60 as a 6 pointer. It is not the buck I wanted for the contest, but with the first buck rule it is the one I will have to enter. I have the pictures, but I need to wait to get the rack back from the butcher to score it.

It has been an unbelievable week up here in Maine...The deer are at peak rut, and are putting on a show! Just a couple of highlights...I saw my first deer (a little buck) swimming , I saw the biggest buck of my hunting career, and I saw a nice little 8 pointer chase a spike away from his doe repeatedly. The chasing occurred anywhere from 5 to 40 yards in front of me for about 5 minutes, and the best part of it was that I was on the ground at eye level!! As they were moving out the bigger buck was running straight at me 20-15-10 yards, finally I had to lunge at him so he wouldnt run me over!

I hope you guys are having some fun out there!

Dana

http://www.huntingnet.com//forum/tm.aspx?m=2469626&mpage=1

I thought this was fishy from the first time I saw the picture...The buck I just shot was a head-on shot to the throat with a 70lb bow and heavy aluminum arrows, and I came nowhere close to blowing through or popping out eyes!

Where is my team? We have three bucks shot and this contest is about putting bucks on the board. I don't want to hear my season is over. I know I can't get out for a few weeks but I'm still holding out hope for a big boy. My hunting buddy, who is a addicted nut, got an email from one of the new home owners he got new land from. There is a 16 point running around and I have to believe the shot gunners next door won't get a crack at him. I'm not holding my breath at him, I just want to let you know what's still out there waiting to be shot. So, don't give up. Don't pick up your gun. Stick with your bow and shoot something. I can assure you I will be able to put a buck on the board for us. Especially if we need it to win. I put the last buck on the board for Team8 to push by the team in first place. I know I can do it again. Lets get close to the other teams.

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Well guys...got some good news, I am finally done with school....I will be graduating this Sunday, December 16th. While I am excited, I am really disappointed in how much I had to sacrifice this semester in order to finish.

My family life has kept me pretty busy. While I would love to say I am going to try and hunt now that student teaching is over, our newborn, Caleb, has been a real difficult baby. I basically stay up with him at night, while my wife gets some rest. I leave for work in the mid morning while she tries to deal with him, as well as, my 3 year old, Mason.

Things are hectic.

I really feel pretty crappy about what I did to this team. Heck, I never would have signed up if I knew how much time I "WOULDN'T" have to hunt. I guess hindsight is always 20/20.

I figured, this year I bought my time for next season. I sacrificed hunting for a lot of things this year. Hopefully, a season like this one won't repeat itself again.

Guys, once again, congrats on the success of those who downed bucks! And I wish the best of luck for those who are still hitting the stands.

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

That's ok Bols, I personally was getting ticked off because of the bucks I wanted to kill but holding out for a better one.

Guy's, I came north to hunt this week but unfortunately I have several things screwing with me. I have a head cold. I still got out last night and this morning. Last night only saw a spike. This morning had a ton of deer walk up and around me. All Does, no shots. They smelled me and ran back into the park. I hung up my bow and about 40 mins later I had a little one walk up below me. I grabbed my bow and shot momma. I tried to nick another arrow because the other little one was trailing behind her. Oooops, forgot to clean the dirt off of it from my last kill. Anyway, she was a big Doe. For the record, I hate dragging a big Doe back up the hill.

For the really bad news, spent all day reversing fraudulant charges on my bank account. If you have a check card visa, cancel it now. If you choose to keep it, put a $500 limit or less on the card. Someone charged $1200 on ours and it's taken me all day to get that charge reverse, but it still isn't over. I've got bank fees and still need to close the account tomorrow.

Needless to say, I didn't make it out this evening. Tomorrow looks bad as far as the weather goes. I'm going to hang til Friday and hunt in the morning. If I don't shoot one then, it may be after Christmas for my next trip. I may not even hunt then because I plan on taking my son and letting him kill some animals. Fear not, I have until Jan 31st. I know I will hunt in Jan and I just bought a full set of UA 3.0. I'm dieing to see if I got taken or my moneys worth.

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Fieldmouse, congrats on the good news, dragging a dead doe back up the hill and out of the woods. ;)

And sorry about the crappy news and the fraudulant charges. I really hate the fact identity theft and fraudulant charges exists. Our world is in a sad state right now...just know that whoever has done this to you will be held accountable sometime in their future.

Check Card Visa, I am assuming you are talking about a debit card? Not to be rude, just curious if we are thinking of the same thing. Personally, I hate buying stuff over the internet....I just get baaaad feelings sending my account info through the internet. But like you said, I do have a credit card with a small balance ($500) so in case I have to break down and do a internet transaction, I know I could only get hit up for an amount I can honestly cover if need be.

Lucky for me, it is a Capital One (No Hassle Policy), and they are serious about the "no hassle" part. I had a fraudulant charge on my account once. I called them up and within about 25 minutes I had the previous account closed and them sending a new card and account number out to me the next day.

And to wrap this up....let me know how the 3.0 works. ;)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I've taken a brake from bow hunting until the middle of Jan. New year and I have a lot of work pile up.

I bow huntedbefore Christmas but failed to see anything with any horns to speak of which was very unusual. However, This past week I took my 10 year old son on his first major hunting trip. I took him back home and went goose hunting and black powder. Shot our limit on the geese one morning. The next morning, we went to hunt deer with a new ground blind tent. Wow, it was exciting. Right at legal shootingtime we had a big deer walk right up to the backside of the tent at about 10 feet away. Knew he was big because of the steps but we couldn't see him. I set up the tent right at the end of a top of a tree fall with leaves. My son asked in a whisper"should I take it off safety?". I replied yes. The buck heard the click ( as you would know) jumps off to about 40 yrds. That's where I saw his high and heavy mass. I could make out his body but didn't think my son could. Afterwards, he said he did see his body but was waiting for me to tell him to shoot. He stood there for about 2 secs before he turned and went into the park.

Blame it on classic buck fever or one scenario not discussed prior. Being in the tent was a new and exciting experience and for both of us tolearn at the sametime was awesome. And then add in his first deer he saw was at least 150+. It's a good thing he didn't kill it. He might expect it next time as well. Anyway, we got to shoot a big Doe and almost was able to shoot another Doe that evening. I was hunting another new spot and two Does right at 5 mins left to shoot, walked up to the back of the tent 5 feet away. It was perfect because we had only seen two hikers at about 100 yrds away.I told him, I have had deer walk up the last minute. Then they arrived.

Thanks for letting me share my first real hunt with my son. We are already planning our spring turkey. I will still get out a few more times. I'm hoping for at least 5 more days. Since we're way behind, I may stay picky. We'll see, I'd like to use my second buck tag since I paid for it.

Well guy, it looks like it's up to me to shoot a 430+ point buck next week. I hope not all of them have lost their racks. I'm up for the challenge. I've got my trip planed. I want to use my second buck tag since I spent the 25 dollars for it. The good news is that if they have paired back up I can drop two in a row since I've already shot the required does for the second buck. My goal next week is at least 1 buck and 3 more does We shall see.

RE: 26-Official Team "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Sorry about falling short. I didn't get to see anything big. I did see every other deer in the county though. I had hunts with over 60 deer coming into my area. Some had some big bodies off in the distance but I didn't see any racks. Makes me think they dropped already. I decided to drop this buck to fill one of my buck tags. He wasn't old and woud have looked real good next year. However, there were several like him so the stock is good for next year.
