Elk hunting in Wyoming? Sweeeet

Are you self guiding?
Yeah, it's an area that I pretty much grew up in and my dad hunted it his entire life until we moved to Texas. My whole family still lives up there so it should be a pretty good deal. I've got plenty of "scouts" and my dad will be up there for a few days before we get there to check stuff out.

Sounds like it should be a great time.

Nice looking dorm. Interesting design. What's in the middle courtyard?

Yeah it's a courtyard... it's a pretty sweet project. I'll try to take some pictures of the rest of it....

Dubbya,

Nice multi-million dollar project there! [8D]

How is the shoulder feeling? Ready to go out West and kill yourself abrute bull?

Everyone seem to like "Busting The Nuts"? I like it! Original and not your same 'ol Rut Junkies orDeer Destroyers....

I havea stand tohang yet and myfinalize my bow. Other than that,I just have to heal up completely from an earlier elbow/ arm injury. I am hoping I can shoot my bow byopening day of season.

BTW, my wife's birthday just happens to be onopening day here in IL. [:@] Maybe October 2nd I will find myself in the stand. :D

I am also thinking about hunting second season in Maryland. Maybe the Fort Meade area with Davepjr (Team #19). It's hard to transfer gear from one place to another and money to do so usually becomes an issue. I'll also have to see how work goes. First season archery is usually equal to second season of Construction and that means I am super busy.
You make the trip and I will put you in the best spot you've ever seen. Shoot what ever you want but know big ones lurk around there.

dwd, do you only do small projects like that or can you handle building my second home?:D

Dubbya,

My elbow is still a little sore when I draw a bow.. .I am hoping another few weeks laying low might help. . .if not, well???? [:@]

I really don't know what I will be doing. Waiting to make one shot, tear a tendon or muscle on the aforementioned shot, hope it is a double lung, claim my prize, field dress, then quickly ask for the ambulance to hall me out of the woods and into the ER for surgery.

What would "Bustin' The Nuts" look like on a forum avatar? I oftenwonder.

I am thinking of it but I am going to Idaho for elk in ten days than will also be hunting Illinois as well as my home state of Wisconsin for deer......Don

RE: 26-Official Team 26 "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

This might sound stupid but this year I vow not to hunt a stand location based on "gut feeling".

Opening day of my November season in Wisconsin last yearI saw a MONSTER 13 pointer. For the next 6 days, I hunted the same stand because I had a "gut feeling" that he would be back. Unfortunately I never saw him again.

I feel like I truly missed out on the rest of my land and possibly other big bucks.

This year it all changes.

Hey, there is a thread asking for who the team captains are. I noticed ours was blank. Do we want to do elections or should we just give it to fieldmouse? I am open to suggestions.

Dubbya 08-19-2007 07:57 PM

RE: 26-Official Team 26 "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Hey guys sorry for the absenteeism. I say we give the captain to mousey...

As for my plans for the season... I'll be hunting all over Oklahoma and several places in Texas. I'm looking for a 130+ deer, but we'll see what happens. I spend the majority of my time in NW oklahoma out around the panhandle, but I've got some other places that we're going to try out this year.

MD, don't totally give up on that gut feeling... it's proven to be successful as many times as it's been unproductive for me!

Bols 08-19-2007 08:35 PM

RE: 26-Official Team 26 "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

I too vote for the Mouse as team captain.

I'm glad everyone is present and it seems like we have a good balance of guys...

My main goal is to get out more this year with my bow. I just hope my "everyday" life will allow it. I have a ton of changes coming into my life this season. . .so bear with me guys.

I have scored in past seasons with my shotgun during gun season here in IL, I am still waiting to get my first deer with my bow. I am excited to see what the season holds, even with my limited hunting schedule.

Anyone else deal with limited hunting schedules and how do you work around it? I am hoping in years to come I can plan more and more hunts. . .but with a young family and another baby on the way, along with work and school, it is just tough to find free time.

On a promising note though, I am excited about the woods I get to hunt. I have two different woods to hunt, one I haven't hunted before and I plan on running and gunning on that piece of property. The land closer to my house has a nice pinch point and plenty ofhardwoods to give deer ample cover. Along with that, a creek runs through the heart of the woods, and corn surrounds the woods as well. I am excited about that!

I am also really excited about the up come season, and have already put alot of work into it. It starts Oct 1ST here in Michigan. I have alot of changes this year that will hopefully pay off. I have completely changed all my stand locations so every area is new to me, but I have a good feeling about the spots, I already have alot of promising activity at my main stand. I hunt to different areas of Michigan one is in Houghton Lake and I have 2 stand locations there, and the other/main area is in Au Gres, and I have 3 stands here. So heres to a good season, and a SAFE season. Good luck fellas

RE: 26-Official Team 26 "Bustin' The Nuts" Thread

Well thanks guys. I can do that and I'm proud to head up the best team on the board this year.

DWD, all you need to do is beat t3's entry of last year early in the season and we have it made.

I've got access once again to my honey hole. It's 45 acs backing up to an over run state park. It's a normal hunt to see several dozen walk by during a hunt with numbers to the 100 on a good night. The problem is being in the right spot at the right time when one of the monsters walks by. It can get exciting. For my other spots, they are scattered throughout. I have access to a ton of places in MD, Va, WV, NC and now recently added Il. Don't no which ones I will get to. It all depends on my travel schedule.

Good luck guys. Let's win this thing!

Guy's first off, rule number one: Can't let this thread fall to page two. Those guys are lining up for runner ups.

We have only one missing team member. That's awesome. I personally don't want to replace him just yet. I want to wait until after labor day. I think the window was set wider and I don't want to bump anyone yet. Besides one of the Martin Girls is coming up on the list. She may not have the best form with the bow but she has good form if you know what I mean.[8D]
