Out again tonite. Warm here today so I sat over a water hole expecting deer movement around dark. Nthing for deer. On a side note, however, this was my second choice stand. My brother was driving around during the evening and drove by my first choice stand. After talking with him we decided that the water would be the better of the two stands. Well, there were 2 110- 115" bucks and a couple does about 20 yards from the stand I was planning on hunting originally. Ahh well, thats why they call it hunting - gotta have some luck - just used logic tonite and it didnt work. Gonna try and get our at least twice this week and get something in my sights at least.

Almost put some points on the board tonite. Got to the stand at 4:35 - first deer at 5:15. Little fawn 8 yards east of my stand. Pretty quiet after he left for about 20 minutes - Sundown about 5:35...buck walking 15 yards south of me. Walked out of any shooting area 40 yards across a little open area. 2 minutes later a doe walks out 25 yards west of me followed by 2 small bucks and a bigger buck. I guess the bigger buck at 115" B&C - (not sure on the P&Y scoring) the 2 smaller bucks peel off at about 20 yards but the bigger one continues walking directly toward me. 10 yards I draw as he turns for a shot - but he takes a quick step behind a bunch of branches. Kinda dissappeared in the trees until after shooting time. Real good buck - got nervous since it was the first deer I had ever drawn on - but it was encouraging to see 8 deer tonite after the last 3 outings seeing none.

Will probably get out again tomorrow nite - hope to at least score some meat!

I got a glimpse of a 9 pointer the other evening. He was working on a doe and she led him away from the stand. Thats a positive note since Im not seeing many deer.

Almost forgot, everyone follow these rules when taking a picture with your buck if you guys get one.

Original post by Rob,

7. You must have a pictured posted on the contest page within the Official Score Card thread to enter a deer. The bow must be in the picture and the entire deer must be in the picture, no skull pictures, no rack pictures...the buck, the bow, and yourself must be in the picture.....call me skeptical. This rule will be enforced this year, no exceptions with no apologies.

There has been two buck entered incorrectly already this year. It gets really difficult to decide if it should be enterd or if it shouldn't.

Dagger - I should have listened to your safe hunting comment - took about a 13 foot fall outta the tree on my way down last nite. Wasnt being stupid, was being real careful - but a branch that I was holding on to while grabbing for the next step broke at the wrong possible time and down I went. Got a gash on the side o fmy head and a real real sore back to show for it, but I had let my bow down before I left the stand and luckily it was on the other side of the tree. Just goes to show that no matter how careful you are, accidents happen. Everybody stay safe and be careful. I'm sidelined from hunting for a couple days now because of this and dont want anybody else having to do the same.

Mr.G

Sorry to here that. Sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you are, the unexpected does happen. Hope you get better soon.

Well tonight my plans changed. Intead of hunting the spot I was talking about earlier today I went south of the farm. Finally saw some bucks tonight. About 15 bucks atleast but none came by me. Just does. The two biggest probably would have been 130. Lots of little bucks but we know there has to be a couple big bucks around.

The rut is on. The little bucks are more agressive than the older bucks but I did see one of the 130 class bucks chasing a doe.

This weekend my dad and I will be hitting it hard. Next weekend is the opening of rifle season and I have a buck tag for that. Hopefully I can get a buck this weekend.

Everybody be careful besides Mr.G for the next couple days.

Update time - have been to full draw on a few does but none have given an opportunity. Out tonite with the change in weather and at full draw on a doe but she gave me a quartering towards me shot - nothing that I'm going to take.

Been seein a few bucks tho. Rifle season starts here next weekend and I will be going west river hunting next thursday with my rifle. Hope to have a doe on the ground for sure by tuesday nite.

Its sure been hard hunting here in Indiana. I havent seen near as many deer compared to last season. I have to say its contributed to the blue tongue disease thats been going around. I believe we've lost way more deer here in Indiana that what we all think. Needless to say Ive still been hard at it. Ive changed my areas with no success. Ive seen some scrapes but nothing showing up after Ive set on them. Been hunting food sources as well. Seen a couple does and fawns and thats about it.

Been kinda slow lately - seein deer but none comin close. Lots of pheasant pressure. Done archery huntin for a while now - leavin in the morning for a weekend of deer hunting (rifle) out west in Perkins County SD. Will be back sunday nite but east river opener is this weekend. Will be interesting to see if any deer survive the slaughter that usually happens from the neighbors hunters every year. They seem to shoot anything and everything that moves - doe, buck, whatever size rack - makes it tough to grow decent deer year after year. Anyhow - will get out probably next wednesday/Thursday possibly. Workin cattle next friday so im kinda limited for a week or so here. Good luck to everybody over the weekend. Lets get some points on the board!
