Well guys, just got home from a 3 day Canada fishing trip. Was kick butt by the way. Over 250 walleyes in the boat.

Holy Smokes, that's putting some fish in the boat. Hey, good to see ya check in Big Country, I knew you'd get here eventually.

I just got back from the mountains and chasing elk, again. In credible how warm weather can shut them down. We only called in two small bulls this weekend, and no one got a shot at either of them. Very little bugling going on, with afternoon temps reaching mid. 70's! I'm going to give the elk a rest and go back to the antelope next weekend. They should be starting some rut activity by now.

Man, I love walleye, I think that is about the best, if not the best, tasting fish there is!!

TreeJay, old buddy, need any help getting rid of all those "eyes"?;)

Howler, I did not mean to scare everyone by not showing up on time.......last I knew the teams were to be picked the first of September. I left on August 30th to hang treestands in several states, and I did not get home until the afternoon of the 3rd.

I finally figured out how to pull up to the bigger hotels and hook up to the net with my laptop though, so I should be able to check in when I am on the road. from now on.

Who says you can`t teach an old dog new tricks?[8D]

Now thats what is important right there!:DTeeJay, you keep those two young men full of good stuff like walleye and they will grow up to be great hunters and first rate citizens!!

I can just eat some more backstraps here on the homefront.;)

We eat 3 or 4 deer a year, hundreds of pounds of fish and probly around 50 Grouse and pheasent. Not counting the moose and Carabou that my kid bro sends down from AK. They know how to eat game. Heck they can probly out fish me. Sam my oldest has been cleaning fish for 2 years now, Jake will start this winter.

I guess i'll take a little time to tell you about myself. I am 29 yrs old and I live in Ohio. I usually hunt in central Ohio. I also just got permission to hunt a small farm in Wayne County, Oh , that i've seen two nice bucks over the summer. Whether or not they are still there come hunting season is anybodies guess. I hope to have some trail cam pics to show everybody after this weekend. I do have a picture of one buck that I took earlier this summer that I hope to get a chance at this year. Although he has been pretty scarce recently. Anyways good luck everybody and look forward to being your teammate this fall.

I appreciate you stepping up and offering to be the Captain......I`ll vote for you.;)

I did a quick check on War Eagle, he does not have many posts, but he has been here since the last big server crash in 2003. His last post was 2 days ago, so I am guessing he just has not seen the teams were picked yet.

Since you offered to be Captain, I will shoot War Eagle a PM and see how fast he responds?

You guys decide how much time you want to give until you ask for an alternate......

Last but not least, War Eagle checking in. I left for Colorado about the same time this thread started and returned Sunday evening. We had a few elk taken but I wasn't one of the lucky ones. I'm headed back in a few weeks for the last week of the archery season. Unfortunatly for the contest, I gave up my trip to Nebraska for this last week. However, I do hunt a large deer heard in Alabama and normally get a buck or two.

That completes the team finally, and like Rob pointed out....we need a name. Earlier I said it didn't really matter what anyone came up with...but we're going to have to get some choices out here for everyone to vote on.

Personally I think "Tree Huggers" would be a funny and amusing name if it's not already taken?

Big Country 09-06-2006 08:45 PM

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Tree Huggers works for me......or any other name everybody agrees on.

I am trying to work out a last minute trip, if I get work straightened away I will be in New Mexico until 9/17, so don`t wait for me to vote on a name.

Meantime, I will be checking 6 trail cams in the morning here in PA, if I get anything good I will try to post a few pics before I go on Friday.

how about the "BOW MANIACS" or BOWMANIANES".
Not that Tree Huggers isn't bad, just a couple of others I thought of.

Tree Hugger works fine for me.

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

If there is no direct objection to the name I think we should edit the title of our section and get the name put up there. :)

BTW...I ordered a new stabilzer and muzzy zero effect for my High Country. Just a few things to spruce it up like new incase I use it this season. I've spent the majority of my time with shooting the Mathews, but I still take out ol'faithful and fire 20-30 shots to make sure it's still ready, "just in case".

The reason for the change is the bodoodle overdraw I was using started to show wear around the needle points on the pivot. The rest would actually slide alittle if you pushed on it so I decided to switch since I really enjoy the Zero Effect on my XT. I should know this weekend how it works out....*sigh* 5 weeks from Saturday till opening day...

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Now that I have more than just a few minutes before work, I'll give you a few more details about me. I'm 2015 as I like to tell my children and have been bow hunting for about 15 years now. I have a very understanding wife that does not complain about me spending every weekend and most holidays in the woods or on the water. Of course, it does cost me dearly at times. Bow hunting whitetails start for me on October 14 and runs until January 31. Starting after Thanksgiving, a large portion of my weekends will be spent on the stand with my 11 yr old daughter. However, I do manage to sneak in a bow hunt or two. Work tends to put me on the road for a week or so from time to time so don't get alarmed if you don't hear from me every week.

As for the team name, Tree Huggers works for me.

Howler 09-07-2006 08:32 PM

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Tree huggers is fine by me too, since no one likes my ideas:(It's just that I've never wanted to be concidered a "tree hugger" save the earth kind of guy:DAfter all, I sometimes drive my chipped diesel truck, and sometimes it's blows a little black smoke!!:)And my 'ol 89 ford has a 460 in it, and it gets about 8 gal. per mile, and that's not much to brag about![:o]Yeah I typed that right 8 gal/per mile!! I always check the gas and fill er' up with oil and she's good to go!!!:D
I'm headed out early a.m. to chase antelope again. I'll be back Sat. evening, unless I catch one before than!!

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Well, lady luck came my way this afternoon, and I managed to get a doe antelope in the bag. I sat in one of my blinds until about noon! I watched antelope most of the morning, including one herd of 20+ that crossed the fence about 200 yards away, twice. That convinced me that they weren't going to use the fence crossing that I was set up on, so I went into the spot-n-stalk/decoy mode. I decided to try to decoy the buck that was with the big herd that I had been watching all morning. When I got around to the draw that I was going to use to close the distanceon them, I spotted two doe that were between me and them, so I decided that I would try to stalk them, since there was no way around them without spooking them to get to the big herd. So I went around the hill above them to get to an old terrace that I could use to close the distance. I crawled along it and when I peeked over to see where they were, they were feeding in my direction, so I just layed low. They kept coming and finally, the closest one offered me a shot, and I put an arrow on the money. The stainless steel inner-loc blew clean through her, at about 47 or 48 yards. One thing about antelope spot-n-stalk,seeing them is easy, and getting close isn't real tough, but getting a shot off will drive a guy nuts sometimes!!

It was sprinkling during the stalk, and by the time I was done de-boneing her, it was raining. In the pic. you can see the rain storm that got me wet!! SO, I'll be cutting and grinding meat tomorrow, and it's back up the mountains next weekend to try for an elk, again!!:D

Ken/WV 09-08-2006 09:53 PM

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Great job Howler! Looks like a perfect shot as well....too bad the rained drowned ya, but that's part of enjoying the great outdoors....I can't count the times that I went out and sit in the stand even with a 90% chance of rain, and then came home soaking wet and empty handed. But back on topic, congrat's on the antelope and good luck on getting that elk.....ifyou take a elk maybe we should try and sneak it in on our score card. [8D]

I went out and took down two stands today. Land owner leased the land without informing me about it. So I just said thanks for letting me know and took the stands down. Took out two really got spots to hunt for this season, but I haven't given up as I have plenty of other options. I guess I just got two more stands to set up in new places.

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

Yeah, I agree, this time of the year is not a good time to be finding out that "your" spot is no longer "yours", NOT that anytime time is a good time to get such news[:@]!! Glad I don't have to worry about that. Instead, I have to worry about trespassers, or someone finding and stealing my trail cam, that hopefully my buddy got put up for me this weekend. My best freind, that lives back there, has land two miles from mine and is going to put up my trail cam and check it periodically for me, so hopefully I'll get some pics. in the near future!

Ken/WV 09-10-2006 12:03 PM

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

It's not the end of the world. I have a lot of area to hunt, but this was one of my favorites. It was neighboring property to a buddies land and we hunted the neighbor's land and the buddies property without concern of having anything stolen or bothered. When my buddy went up to check everything this month he found fresh posted signs and contacted the neighbor. He said he had leased the land and didn't know if the new guys wanted any hunting or not. So rather then bother with it, he simply told him we would pull out or stuff.

But I'm checking the stands I took down and I'm going to wirebrush the climbing sticks and re-paint them today and then maybe get them set out Friday or Saturday.

I'm also going to contect Rob about changing our title to 5 - Team Tree Huggers so our name will be on the main page. :D

RE: 5- Team Official Thread

I'm back from my Co elk hunt with nothing to show. I do have some funny stories I posted in the big game section if you want to read it "MY NEMESIS". We had a great time, but man was it hot, rainy, and a full moon was out most of the week. This was my first archery hunt for elk and I really felt like I had no idea what I should be doing. I hiked all day 5-10 miles, up and out of camp before light and not home until dark. I don't personally know anyone who has ever killed an elk with a bow so I guess I'm trying to teach myself through trial and error. Ihave a feelingthis is going to be a very costly learning experience, but fun.
