RE: 8- Team Official Thread
This season gets more and more frustrating as the days go by. I had a good encounter w/ a 100" 8 point saturday morning. Right at sunup I had a coyote walk through, and well, let's just say he won't do that again....
10 minutes later, 2 does walked the same path...50 yards away, but quite a bit of brush in the way. 10 minutes later, that 8 pt came down the trail w/ his nose to the ground. I would have taken the shot, but there is just too much brush in the way. Besides, I figured he would catch up to the hot doe and chase her anyway, so I just stayed put. Nope. Didn't happen. That was it for Saturday, save a buch of turkeys. Fast forward to this morning. 3 does came through. I told myself not to shoot, I've already taken 2 does this year and really want my buck now. Well, that was fine and dandy till one stopped broadside at 20 yards......Stinger away. The hit was high, real high. I had my pin set at 35 yards and forgot to move it back to 20......It was high enough I was surprised I didn't spine shoot her, in fact, I actually thought I missed till I found my arrow. Well, LONG story short, I seriously don't think I mortally wounded her. I tracked her for over a mile till she crossed onto ground I couldn't trespass on. But at that point, I was pretty sure she was going to be ok. I mean, all that's up in the area I hit is that artery that runs along their spine, and there is no way she wouldn't have bled out by then. So I'm confident she'll survive, but it is still disheartening.....Hell, I dunno. This almost isn't even fun anymore....Not quite that bad mind you, but almost. I think I've put way too much pressure on myself...... Anyway, I'm headed to northern MO next weekend, so I'll be back at it then. |

2nd rut is in full swing right now. Just seeing yearling bucks chase does the last couple days, but the big bucks should start being visible again. I scouted a new spot that looks awesome yesterday. I cant wait to bowhunt it this week.

Good news & bad news here...Bad news is I STILL havnt gotten on a buck in Indiana...Good news is I found the buck that I stuck in the loins last year. Background info: Last season I shot a big P&Y 10 pointer quarting away high through the loins. Maybe 1/4 of my arrow penetrated. This was in late Dec. with snow on the ground and there was 0 blood in a 200 yard radius from were I shot him. ANY ways...I've been sick about it the last year. The farmer that I lease the farm from calls me last night and says he found the skull fully intact down in a creek bed a half mile from were I shot him. Mice hit it a little bit but we worked on it last night and sanded it even and made it look pretty good. The only real damage to the rack is about 3 inches are chewed off of the left G-3, (its still 9.5 inches!) but the G-4 is entirely chewed off. Other than that It looks fine. I will post pictures hopefully Sun. night. Im gona bowhunt hard this next week! Hopefull something gives.
