Well guys, I finally got one on the ground. I went out tonight in the 30mph winds and cooler weather and scored on a nice doe. I put a great shot on her, right behind the shoulder on both entrance and exit. She ran an incredible 120 yards after the shot. She was only 8 yards away when I put the arrow in her. There was no other activity in the timber tonight. I do have to say that the Tide Free, Scent Killer spray, and Scent Killer soaps did a wonderful job. She came in totally wrong, straight down wind, and never knew I was there. I will start hitting some of my buck spots now that I have one under my belt. I have the first week of November off to really hit them hard. Iwill not be posting a pic of this doe, as I forgot the camera. We had her half skinned before I even thought of it. I hope everyone else is having some luck. I will be enjoying backstraps for breakfast now.

Update:

Sorry I haven't been on much. I got back from the farm Tuesday evening and had some things to get straight yesterday at the houseso I didn't get online. It was a doe day on Saturday in Chesapeake (rifle & shotgun) and I tagged what I thought was a doe but upon further review it was a button buck. No big deal exceptI had to use one of my antlerless tags rather than a DMAP. In the rest of VA the bow opener was on Saturday so on Sunday evening my partnerI left forthe farm which is about 2 hours westnear Petersburg. We bowhunted Monday/Tuesday and saw 5 doeson Monday and 2 on Tuesday. We passed on the does on Tuesday because one was big and the other was her yearling. The little one was alternating between acorns and suckling so wejust watched.I knowthe yearling can survive but realisticallyit hasn't learned enough about survival to last very long without it's mama. I'm getting soft. Our farm isn't that big (around 100 acres) and when the rut starts heating up it will be very beneficial to have a lot of does bedding on our property. So we just hunt patiently and try to not spook up the woods that way when blackpowder opens the 2nd and 3rd week of November we should be sitting pretty for the rut.

Congrats on the doe NEW! Sounds like some tender eating. I forgot to add in my post that I shot the doe with the team shirt on. I am not superstitious, but that shirt will be going with me on the next few hunts. Good luck everyone!

Hey RD, hope you are feeling better. Take it light and take care of yourself. My buddy retired in the spring and passed away last week of a severe asthma attack. He was only 56. He had also been diagnosed with asbestosis so I'm sure that compounded his asthma problems. Not trying to be a downer just take care of youself and when you kill that big eight give us a post and we'll come drag his big butt out for ya, I meanyou're retired you ain't supposed to be doing any work.

Thats reassuring to know: sorry to hear about your friend , I don't think I'm ready to kick the bucket anytime soon knock on wood.
I've been going crazy being coop - up in this house all day everyday for the past two weekstrying to get better , Iam going up north with my wife for a week and I'll be able to do a little hunting while she's at the casino's ha ha.
Who knows with a little luck and alot of Gods help I might come home with a MEGA BUCK on the back of my tail gate.
I'm glad to see that you and Woodline got some meat in the freezer and please keep all of us up to date on your wife's new arrival I know she's gotta be ready by now .
I wish all of you the best of luck and let's try to beat that young kid on team # 7 with a 179 + buck , well I'll sign off for now but I'll keep you guys posted may God bless us all with good health and a safe season.

Congrats woodline and new, great job. Now it's time to lay the smackdown on a bruiser. Come on downQ2, you're welcome anytime. Maybe you would bring a little luck, I sure can't seem to get any. The weather is changing and is looking better, maybe, just maybe, the time is nearer on putting "Pitchfork" where he belongs.....on the wall and on our scorecard. Good luck to everyone this weekend. I probably won't check back in until Monday.
