RE: Official Team 18 Thread!

X Tec,

We picked the 4-11th of Nov. for a couple of reasons. We figured the rut should be peaking somewhere around Nov. 10th . So we figured by getting there on the fourth we should be able to catch a few days of the pre-rut when they will hopefully still respond to calling and hopefully it will be late enough in the pre-rut that the bigger bucks will be on there feet looking for the first few does that are coming in heat. Also, it should put us there for a few day of the peak rut when a good one can show up out of nowhere at almost any time.We also liked the moon phase for that week and hopefully that moon phase will provide for more daytime movement. Also, that week gives us a little better chance of having cool weather than the previous week but probably not as good a chance as the following week so we will just have to hope for some decent weather while we are there. Also, by going that week it will allow me to be back home for our two day gun season so I can take my wife and let her gun hunt. Hunting that week is also going to allow us to be the first group on that particular farm for the year.So there are really several things that went into that decision but overall it's typically my favorite week of the season. Your week should be a good week also especiallyif the weather cooperates. Oct. 31st is my "magic day" for rattling up deer and that particular phase of the rut lends itself well to calling. You all should have a good hunt.

I agree with everything that you said and like I said....I would have loved to change the dates by a couple days on both ends of the week, but what's a guy to do. Weather for me is going to be the deciding factor. If we run into some nice cool weather......it's going to be GAME ON!!!! Plus we figured that even the big boys will be roaming plenty when we go down there....tending scrapes, fighting and scent checking ridge tops for the 1st hot doe. If the weather will cooperate, we'll see plenty of shooters. We are busting our butts on this trip and putting in our homework. We didn't even consider any stand spot within a 1/4 mile of the nearest road or house. We concentrated on funnels, draws, ridge fingers, secluded pondsanywhere from 1/2-mile from what I just mentioned. I don't think too many locals really get that far in, so we should be seeing some unpressured deer. Or at least that's our hope and plan. ha ,ha

Xtec,

I sounds like you all have a good game plan. If the weather cooperates at all you should have an awesome hunt but you can't ever tell, even if the weather doesn't cooperate when you are hunting in those prime time areas you can still have the hunt of a lifetime. I bet you guys will have a great hunt.

2 votes crimson trail, I could go crimson trail just to get the naming process overwith.

WhenI came up with that oneI was thinking something along the lines of the blood trail being something we love to see, but also want it to be short with a happy ending at the same time.
I lovetracking a mortaly wounded deerjust as much as any of the rest of it. I've been called a human blood hound before;).
