RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Hey guys,
I havn't got ahold of Rack yet, I have been pretty bust lately. Today I spent the morning setting up my ground blind on a over-grown power-line that leads for a golden rod field to a corn/alfalfa/clover field. This is a awsome travel route and usually one of the best spots I have for seeing buck activity. I set-up my game cam over a freshly worked scrape so I am hoping to get some good pics of bucks checking it. After that, I went and set-up my ladder stand which is probablly gonna be my primary stand location. It is set-up in a cluster of 4 small trees that are in the middle of a grown-up golden rod field. There was a path cut last year that leads down 15 yards to the left of the stand and cuts off 20 yards in front of the stand. To the right of the stand about 10 yards is a pond that the deer usually drink from before heading towards the fields at night. After that I went out and got a mock scrape kit and made two mock scrapes about 17 yards from one of my hang-on stands and this is where I got the pics of the big 10 point that is pictured under-neath my name. I am gonna see if they start getting worked over and if they do, I am gonna set the camera up over them. After that I went and helped my best-friend put a new string and cable on his bow, then we shot for about an hour before we headed out to his uncles farm to check out the property. His uncle is running a Trail Mac digital game cam out there and had tons of pictures of bucks which he gave to me, so I can put some on here tommorrow. After that, we took a little drive around some of our other properties looking for sign/deer and we are starting to see alot of scrapes. God I can't wait for Oct. 1st :D |

Hey guys! The MD opener is Thursday, but I was given the last minute opportuntity to travel to Maine on Thursday for a bear hunt. I couldn't pass it. up.
The MD season is long (Sept 15 - Jan. 31), so a couple days won't hurt.... Slice |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Good luck Slice I don't blame ya!
Mobow, glad to hear the surgery went well! I thought I was going to have to goout there and hunt all your stands for you:D No good news to report fromNY. Just lost another 100acres of farm land to out of state big $$$$lease. Going out todayto recoup by scouting new public ground. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well, saturday will be my first day out. Season opens Thursday, but I am gonna let my son hunt that evening. Don't worry.....he hasn't even seen my good spots yet....;)
Looked at the long range forecast, and the wind is predicted to be absolutely perfect for my stands this weekend. I finished up my arrows last night, and the Stingers are ready for some lunch!! My knee is doing better than I expected. In fact, I sometimes have to remind myself I just had surgery on it and should take it easy. So, I pulled out the pop up blind tonight, blew the dust off it, sprayed it down with scent killer, and left it set up in the yard to air out. Needless to say, every preperation that can be made, has been....well, except for H. Preparations A-G have been made....LOL. I just want to say that I am looking most forward to sharing this season with the members of Team 5!! Been great getting to know you all! Ok, now huddle up ya'll! Hands in the center......BruiserBusters on 3.......1....2....3...... GO BRUISER-BUSTERS!!!! |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
MoBow: Hey glad to year you're doing well, good luck with your son... I guess that was today eh? I've had funchasing your posts around this week. Seemslike everytime I go to give advice, you've already said everything I was going to so I just reaffirm it.:D Anyway good luck saturday as well.
BM: Man I know how you feel, I can't sleep at night anymore Oct. 1 just needs to get here. I've been waiting since January 15th. Looking forward to your pics tomorrow. I also am looking forward to the comradery of my Bruiser Bustin brothers this year. Let's get 'em boys. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Hey guys,
I got out today and checked out one of my better stand spots (the Oaks), which is about a 1 acre clearing in some thick woods that has nothing but yard-grass on the ground and sparse huge white oaks making a canopy. The west side of the clearing is thick brush (bedding area), to the south is a large grown up apple orchard, to the east is the large grown-up golden-rod field with a pond in it (where I have been seeing the 150" class 10 pointer), and to the north is the property owners backyard. One the west side of this clearing I found tons of rubs and a natural scrape. When I saw this I came back to my house and headed for Wal-Mart where I picked up two bottles of "Active Scrape" scent, a bottle of non-estrus doe urine, and a bottle of buck tarsal scent. I came back home and grabbed my scent dripper and both of my scouting cameras. I went back and put my Moultrie digital over the natural scrape and just added a little bit of each scent to that scrape. I went and found a perfect looking tree that is about 23 yards from my stand and I scraped up the ground, broke up the over-hanging branch, sprayed the scrape andover-hanging branchwith the doe urine and tarsal gland scent, then I filled the scrape dripper with active scrape and hung that over the scrape and sprayed the remaining active scrape on the over-hanging branch. I set the Trail Mac digital over the scrape and I am really looking forward to checkin the cameras out next week. I am gonna leave the cameras there till atleast Monday afternoon before I check them, I might wait till Thursday though. Been shooting the BowTech alot and am drilling tacks out to 40 yards, this thing is dead on and I am ready to roll. All I have to do is wait for season to open and I have a feeling that the wait is gonna kill me. I may get out Monday afternoon and do a little archery hunting for some dang ground-hogs. Here are a few new game cam pics.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
I'm going out in the morning to a public area to do a little scouting. I already know where I'm hunting but I'm just gonna see. I've got a pretty good 9pt. that crosses some private property that I can hunt, he does it every morning. Hopefully I will make him the first one of the season. I'll let ya know what I see tomorrow.

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Alright fella's, I'm back from Maine (no bear). I'll be out on Saturday chasing them in MD. I let a buddy hunt my stand last Saturday while I was outta town. He saw 9 deer by 7:30, but no bucks yet. Just a matter of time...

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well, I leave Friday afternoon for our farm in southern MO. It's not knownfor big bucks, however my buddy shot a 154 there last fall. It's nothing but good old Missouri Ozarks hardwoods, no crops at all, save 2 clover patches we planted a couple of years ago. Besides, as hot as it's gonna be, I do believe we will be doing more trout fishing than deer hunting.

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
good luck with both mobow the fishin and the huntin. I'm lookin forward to some pics... of whatever it is you see.
We might need to call mother nature too, since we are talkin to the indian chief and all. Maybe ask for some cool temps. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
cooler weather headed my way! supposed to be 40 degrees F on opening morning( oct.1)

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Hey guys,
5 days and counting. I am pumped up and entirely ready. Weather is looking GREAT for Sat. morning. Right now we are having lows around 60 and highs in the low to mid 80's. Thur, Fri, and Sat (opener) are supposed to be highs around 60-65 and lows around 36-40 degrees. That temp drop should have the deer on the move big-time especially since it is supposed to rain up until Friday afternoon. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well, the weekend went ok. My buddy shot a fat doe saturday evening, just before the remnants of Rita dumped half a foot of rain on us. Tracking was fun. We got positively soaked. I saw squat. Not one single deer. It was very warm, though. Lows only in the mid 70's, high around 92. Shoot, we didn't even get to go fishing. Too much work to do. Oh well, that's why they call it huntin!! Good weather comin this weekend though.
Good luck Buck Magnet. Bring it to 'em!! |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Four longggggg days and counting for me.Looks like the weather will be a little better.Highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 40s.Heading out Friday afternoon for camp.Be back with a report Monday.Good luck to all!!!

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
I'm way pumped too guys. I will be at the all time best whitetail place I've ever seen on Saturday morning. We lost our lease on this place last year and didn't think we would ever get to hunt it again. Fortunately the guy liked us and is letting us hunt a few times this year for free.
I also went out to a public place that I frequently hunt and saw deer EVERYWHERE. There is a place I turkey hunted last spring that looks awesome (sign everywhere) and nobody has been there in a very long time. Oh lordy how am I going to sleep this week? |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Hey guys,
Great news, I am not only hunting in my home state of PA this year, I will be spending atleast 1 week hunting in prime pre-rut SW Ohio. My buddy moved out there a few weeks ago and has got permission for him and I to hunt a co-workers farm. We are the only two bow-hunters on the 180 acre farm and this place sounds like a dream. I talked to my best friend about an hour ago and he was out sitting over a alfalfa/soybean field where he was watching over 30 deer (14 bucks) feeding around him. He said there were a couple bruisers out in the fields and this farm is just covered up in big mature deer. Knowing this is gonna make it awhole lot easier to be really picky on a PA buck. Season opens Sat. and I am gonna spend the morning in my ground-blind over looking a cut power line that gets alot of bucks traveling it and in the evening I will be out my friends farm sitting 20 yards inside the woods from a large alfalfa field behind me in the woods is where we planted Imperial Extreme food-plot seed last year. There have been 5 different bruisers visiting this feild pretty much every evening so I am hoping that is true for Sat. It would be nice to kick the team off with a 135"-150" 10 pointer :D |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Did I ever get some exciting news today!!!!! There isa well known theme park pretty close to where I live. This company also owns a lot ( I have no idea how much ) ground bordering the park. Well, around here, the place is like an urban legend. I mean, anybody who's anybody that grew up bow hunting around here has dreamed of getting into this place. It is fairly exclusive, and pretty hard to get in. Only about a dozen ppl a year get to hunt. But, as long as you don't do anything stupid, you are in until you decide not to be.
Anyway, I digress. This place is positively LOADED with not only does, but really big bucks. I know a couple of the security gaurds, and when they are making their rounds, they are no longer surprised when they see 160's and 170's. They are just like "Hey, wow...another one." One guy said it's nothing for them to look into the woods bordering the park and count 3 dozen or so deer. Well, today.........after years of trying...........I finally.....finally....got in!!! I'm so excited I can barely contain myself!! They allow no hunting on days when the park is open, and in October they are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So, bummer for me, I won't get in until November. But, I am off work the entire first week, and will be camped out in this place. I CAN'T WAIT!! |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
congrats on your good luck....now send a little my way!:D

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well guys, the first day here in PA is over and what a day.... probablly the worst opener I have had [:@] Started off by not getting more than 2 hours of sleep last night. Woke up this morning and got everything ready and headed out to my ladder stand set-up in a golden rod field that divides a corn field and a bedding area. I sat their till about 10:00 without seeing a single deer, actually all I saw was a raccoon. I came home and I knew that I had to get some sleep before the evening hunt. I slept till 3:00 and headed out to my best-friends uncles farm. I was set-up by 3:45 and was ready for a long wait. At about 4:50 I had a hen turkey come in and she decided to spende over an hour bugging in the leaves within 20 yards of me. Finally, she left at 6:00 and I waited for the last hour or so. About 15 minutes later I heard the leaves rustling behind me and when I turned around I saw a fox being chased by a coyote as they ran around my stand. I waited till dark and never saw a deer. I'll get to hunt every evening this week so hopefully things stat picking up.

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Ah yes. High expectations shattered all around. I know them ALL to well. I finally, yesterday morning, saw the buck I have been hunting, but of course he was 100 yards away. Little to far for me. LOL
Hang in there bud. You'll do just fine, I can feel it. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well, good news, bad news. First the good news. I hunted a piece of heavily hunted public land on Saturday night and shot a decent 7 point. We followed his trail for a while Saturday night, but had a hard time following the trail accross a soybean field strip, and then a grass strip. We marked the trail and backed out until the morning. After just 10 minutes, we found him on Sunday morning.
Now the bad news. I forgot my camera that morning. I didn't get to take it home for some pics because I had to take him straight to the processors as the day was getting warm and I didn't want the meat to spoil. (I live over an hour from where the public land is and the processor is a half and hour from my house). So, I'm hoping that I'll be allowed to usea pic of me and the cape after I get the cape back from the processor. I haven't measured him yet, again, I had to hurry to get him to the processors. He's not the biggest deer in the woods, but a decent buck in my book. Slice |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
No luck for me either, its almost 90F here, deer are not moving, then someone had to throw in a 15 - 20 mph wind, deer are laying down in the cornfields.
|
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
well done slice, I think that the pics will be fine for the contest. That definitely gets us on the board. way to go guys.
|
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Congrats Slice, the pic should be fine, there is already and entry with just the head of a buck so I am sure yours will be fine. Thanks for putting us on the board.
Well team, this evening was MUCH better than Saturday. I sat in my ladder stand (setup in a golden rod field that seperates a large stand of oaks with thick underbrush and a corn/alfalfa/clover field, there is also a pond in this golden rod field). At about 6:00 p.m. I saw some movement on the other side of the pond and 5 does worked their way out of the oaks into the golden rod field. I was watching them when I heard something right to my left. I look over and there was a small 7 pointer comming up the trail, he walked past my stand at less than 5 yards and headed up for the corn. Well, I went back to watching the does and about 15 minutes later I heard a noise from the same trail. I looked and here come two more bucks, both were small 6 points and both walked past me at less than 5 yards. I could have EASILY plugged any of these 3 bucks but there is still ALOT of season left and I am really picky this year. They may not have been bruisers, but it was nice to actually see some deer, especially considering that it was about 86 degrees out today  I wore a pair of shorts and a cut-off t-shirt with my ASAT suit over it and I was still hot. I will be out Wed. evening, it is still gonna be hot but we have rain moving in sometime on Thursday. Thursday I have the day off and I will be in stand all day, the high is supposed to be in the mid-60's and with the rain comming in the deer activity should be good. Friday I will be out in the evening, it is supposed to be clear and cooler, high of 68 degrees. I'll keep ya'll updated. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
I asked Rob if the pics would be ok and he replied that he'll have to run them by all of the captains and mods before making a determination on whether they'll allow the pic or not. I would think they would since there are already pics that have been allowed with just the head, pics with no bow in them, ect, ect. But we'll wait and see what they determine. I apologize, but I didn't want to risk the meat spoiling just to go home and get the camera.
I'm supposed to pick up the meat and cape tonight, and will take some pics then and should have them by the end of the week. I'll measure probably tomorrow night. Slice |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
I measured him last night. I have him at 71.Again, not the biggest buck in the woods, but I'll take him. Pics will be developed tonight and with a little luck I may have them on here tomorrow.

nice buck and puts us on the board. ![]() 10 more days for me soit's nice to listen to the reports. Sounds like the big boys arn't moving till dark. Maybe back off on some of the "honey hole" locations and hunt some does on field edges, appleorcherds, and water holes. Mobow how'smoving aroundthewoods treating you? Good shape? |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
congrats slice, any deer taken with a bow is a trophy!
|
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
anyone been seeing much. We lost ourplace in north western OK which really really sucks. I saw a buck today on the public land but he was through my shooting lane before I had time to pick up my bow. I will get him on monday I hope, he was working a scrape line that I found. He's not real big but not bad for a public land buck.

RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Hey guys,
I have been passing up alot of small bucks, I think the number is up to 5 or 6 different little bucks so far this season. All were 1-1/2 year old 6, 7, and 8 points. The big bucks still aren't moving too much yet, but the weather is changing, temps are dropping, and I am less than 2 weeks away from starting my 2 weeks of paid vacation :D:D On a side note, I did see one of the big guys that I am after yesterday. It was raining (its been raining here for like 3 days straight) and I decided to stalk my way back to a stand that I have on the edge of a ridge that has some REALLY thick bedding area behind me and about 200 yards in front of me is a cut cornfield and a clover field. Well, I got about 50 yards from my stand and caught movement to my left and behind me. Well, their is "Ol' Ripped Ear" as he stands up from behind a blow down. I froze and waited about a minute for him to calm down. I started to draw my bow back and he started sneaking away and he got into a thick creek bottom before I could get my pin on him. He snuck through the creek bottom and into a x-mas tree field. I didn't spook him too bad but I am gonna let that area go for a couple days. I did find a nice tree to hang my climber in though so if he keeps bedding in the blowdowns I won't have to walk past him and spook him to get in the tree. Also, my buddy has been hunting in Ohio and he is seeing a ton of different bucks on the farm. He has seen something like 16 different bucks while on stand and he has been hearing that the bucks in Ohio are starting to move a little more, I should do very good when I am there at the end of Oct. |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Alright, guys. I posted it. Now we have to see if the pic is accepted since it's not a full body pic. Again, I apologize for not taking a full body pic, but the meat would have spoiled if I had went home for the camera. I think they should accept it since there is a buck on there with just a head and no cape and the 170" deer has no bow, but we'll see.
Go get em, boyz!! Slice |
RE: Official Team "Bruiser-Busters" (5) Thread!
Well boys, I'll be in the stand tomorrow night hunting a clover field. The deer have been hitting it pretty hard. We'll see what happens.

Congrats on your buck!! You did the right thing by taking care of the meat first. More important then a contest, but I would think you shouldn't have a problem getting it entered. Tim |
