The 30-30 offers nothing that similar cartridges like the .308 won't won't. The 30-30 is the equivelant of a Studebeger, people just use them because of tradition, and that isn't a bad thing.
Sure it does: cheaper ammo, comes packaged in a handy lever rifle that looks waaaaay nicer than a plastic-stocked Savage or Remington, and ample reach/power for probablyl 90% if deer shot yearly. It has less recoil than .308-class cartridge, and isn't as loud. How's that for some advantages? Plus... it'll kill the deer, despite the Knowledgeable who'll tell you it's obsolete.
