Yes, that is the trick with any caliber of rifle that you use. You must have a well placed shot before any bullet can do its part, be it a muzzleloader, shotgun or rifle no matter what caliber you use. 30/30 have been successfully killing deer and other large game for over 100 years and doing a good job of it. I really think that all of these magnums and other high end cartridges are overrated for deer hunting. I am not saying that they are not better because I know that they are, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 30/30 like some people would lead you to believe. .243, .270, or 30/30 are allmore than capableto hunt deer with. And they are all pretty mild recoiled rounds to hunt with. But then again, that is just my opinion. I am not an expert.
