35 is right at about the minimum, but its a deadly shot if the deer is within 30 yards.
35 pounds is enough with a heavy arrow and a 15 yard shot or less. Also use a cut on contact broadhead like a magnus stinger 2 blade for maximum penetration. Good luck to your son!
