i had the same problem as you did when i first got into scopes about 5 years ago. i got some no name rings and bases. i learned from others on these boards ( my only way of learning about these things ). now all i use is luepold mounts and rings. cost is about $25.00 for the bases ( 2 piece ) and about $21.00 for the rings. i think it is well worth the extra money and i never had a problem with them yet.
now if you want to get fancy try some tally rings and bases. i hear they are the best. but at a cost!
