whatever you do, DO NOT just dump the feed on the ground. I spent about 2.5 hours and built myself 2 really nice covered troughs from rough cut lumber. (Cheap at your local sawmill.)
Food laying on the ground will help to spread illness and disease among the deer because of the urnine, feces, and mud. A sick buck's antlers will not reach the potential they would have had he been healthy. Ground feeding may also lead to increased death in the winter when they are more prone to disease.
