Mtboy- Your assumption as to sectional densities is wrong. When penetration is concerned you must consider sectional density(with bullets of the same construction) as well as the fact that the 7mm makes a slightly smaller hole.Combine that with the extra energy of the 7mm mag and the fact it holds its velocity better at longer ranges and the 30-06 will not provide as much penetration as the 7mm mag. When using the 220 gr bullets youb will also get a great deal more bullet drop than with any 7mm load.Once you have gained some ballistic experience and taken a fair number of game animals you will also see the difference between theory and what actually does happen with different bullets. As to the big bears you talk about just how many grizzlies have you taken?
