Default First Deer with a bow...

And my first doe.

I thought my spot was spoiled for the night when the family canine chased off one doe and then proceeded to pee and bark all over the place. Well, around 5:30, my luck changed.

A nice doe came out; with a fawn in tow. She presented too nice a shot, I just couldn't pass it up. She was closer than I thought, plus she ducked down a bit when I shot; so I ended up shooting her spinal cord. She went straight down, tried to move, but had no use of her front legs.

I immediately got out of my stand and finished her off with my knife into her heart. It was a little tough to see her struggle, but I think I was probably able to finish her off faster with my knife than she would have with a lung shot.

I reckon she'll weigh in around the 130 - 140 lb range. When I cleaned her out, there was no milk, so either the fawn was fully weaned or the fawn belonged to another doe. Anycase, can't wait to taste some of this meat.

Cheers,
