Default RE: Winchester Model 70 featherlite .300 WSM

dmitchell28,

I have read several articles over the last few months as well as talk with some prominent gunsmiths and everyone seems to say the same thing. Don't get caught up in the notion that the price of Winchester rifles will skyrocket because they closed the door. The gunsmiths and articles have said that the post 64 rifles aren't the desireable models anyway and that somewhere along the line Browning or someone else will pick production back up. Whether the doors closed or not the pre64 models haven't been made for a long time and their values won't be affected at all by the closing. I have personally seen some retailers jack the price up on their remaining stock by up to 50% and those guns sit on the shelves. We have one gun shop here in town that sells mostly Winchester and I asked him about prices. His reply was that theywill stay the same on his remaining stock because while they say Winchester on them they are just another rifle in the crowd. Nothing special about them like the pre64's. I think a lot of people would like to think that this development automatically makes their rifle a collector, but I can see his point too. It's not a pre64 for what is collectible about it? Anyway, not necessarily my opinion, but whatI have read and heard. Good luck with yours.
