Trust me, a .243 with a 100gr. bullet will work fine. I hate to admit it but I started with a .222 and shot a doe through the lungs and it ran 70 yards. I have upgraded to a 30-30 and now to a 30-06. My advice is to get as big of gun as you can shoot good.
