Yeah, asking a Warden or the Department/Commission is the safest bet.

Some things can be screwy.
In my own state, technically,having any weapon, firearm or bow, in the woods, etc, with you can be "construed as prema facia evidence of hunting" by a Warden at any time of the year.
Not that any decent Warden with some common sense would think that, but I think anystatehas their share of ........ gung-ho pr*cks in the ranks.

So be safe, ask the proper Department about it.
