Default Hoyt - on a positive note!

We got our shipment in today of the new Hoyts. Anxious to see how they really fair, I grabbed a new Cam and 1/2 and proceeded to thoroughly examine it. Interesting design, however, so basically similar to the Darton C/P/S that it's scary. I'm sure they carefully read Darton's patents.

Next we took the bow out to the Apple machine to check for nock travel. An initial inspection showed that the cables were not lined up, IMO, to the timing lines as I would expect. Since the cables/string stretch at different rates, this is really not uncommon. Regardless, I put the bow on the machine. The nock travel was level but NOT totally straight. There was a definite downswing about the last 2" of the draw cycle. Even with this undesirable situation, it was still a lot better than just about every other typical single cam we have tested.

I took the bow to the press and proceeded to adjust the cables to a point where I felt they should fall within the timing marks. Back to the press and 'walla' - a perfectly straight and level nock travel.

Next we tested to see if we could get the speed as advertised. We first checked the advertised/posted draw length. It was almost 3/4" too long - somewhat typical with many of today's manufacturers - some have actually admitted to me that they have a problem in this area. The speeds we saw were also typical of what we usually find with Hoyt bows. Not quite as fast as advertised; but, very respectable. Keep in mind that we've only ever found a couple of bow companies that meet their advertised speeds. BTW, I had one of my techs do the speed testing since I'm not supposed to draw bows back yet. I have cheated a little on this issue; but, don't tell my Doctor.

The draw cycle on the new Cam and 1/2 is very smooth. It is hard to tell the difference between it and their Command Cam+. The Spiral Cam and 1/2 on the SuperTec is also very smooth but has a non-existant valley. If you move just a little, it wants to take off. It would be best not to order this bow unless you know how to pull and release hard against the back wall. This would also require making sure you have absolutely the correct draw length.

So far I'm very impressed with the cam design and the Hoyt products in general. For the smooth draw cycle and great speed, I don't think you can go wrong with this new cam design.
