Put the third (middle)pin in the center of the sight ring, figure out what yardageyou will use this pin for, sight it in, then sight in your closer and further pins accordingly. I personally use three pins (20, 30, and 40 yards) for hunting. On my bow, anything 20 yards or less has very little, or no arc in the arrow trajectory. I've never shot competition, so I can't say that five pins is too many for everyone.
