Default It's time to start training

Each hunting sesaon we hear " I lost a deer Help" and we hear people say "get a dog". Well now is the time to find out if your dog can or will track not at midnight when your tired and already frustrated from loosing a deer. There are a few simple things that you can do now to find out if "ol Blue" will be of any help.

A simple blood trail laid out over 20-30 yards for a mature dog and maybe half that for a pup will tell you if the dog has the intrest to follow a blood trail. If the dog shows intrest then you can start working on longer blood trails over the next few months. Working on 1 or 2 mock blood trails a month now until deer season will insure your dog is ready to go when you need them. If you work on this each month by fall you should have a dog that can do a 4-6 hr old track and around 400-500 yards long. You might not make 'ol Blue" into a super tracker but at least he will know what you wnat when you take him to the woods and show him some blood.

We always prepare ourselves, our hunting clothes and gear why not have a fine tuned dog when it is needed.

Just something to think about during the off season.
