at the average range of 30-35 yds either or (4's-6's) work fine but myself I shoot 4's my 11-87 patterns them the best i pattern at 45 of my paces which is a solid 40 yds ant the 4's just tear up the pattern board under 35 yds with the choke tubes of today you could probably get by with just about anything but down range energy is very important past 35 yds. my son's 11-87 patterns 5's best he killed a monster gobbler for his first turkey last spring at 48 paces the bird barely flinched when it hit the deck
