As far as the nick goes, probably too late to do anything now. If you were not happy with it you could have refused to take it and had them send another one. Mine have all had decent wood on them, and the ultra deluxe is really nice in that respect.

I don't think the extension is going to help you any in seeing the sights with the hammer up. It just screws to the side of the hammer. You might be able to have the hammer bobbed and serrated if it bugs you that much. I don't know if removing the weight would effect the reliability when the hammer drops or not. Think of a hammer on a combat hand gun.

Oooh, the tracker in a double action would be kind of neat wouldn't it.
