I have never known a better deer hunter than my grandfather. He could track a deer where I couldn't even see sign. The ideas of his that I thought werethe absolute craziest worked the best lol. As an example, he used to spray himself with apple cider when he left the house so he would smell like a frigging apple in the woods. He sat in his ground blind one day (no tree stand for him lol) smelling like an apple and the same buck came up to him 2-3 days in a row, but he would never get close enough for a good shot with his 30-30. So the next day he went out with an egg timer in his pocket, figuring that the deer had never heard ticking before and would come in and investigate. To make a long story short...the buck had powder burns on it. I will never be as good a hunter as him.
