Well i am headed out tomorrow. Only one problem. Where i hunt it is a metro unit and i need a discharge permit to shoot in the city limits. Well the darn permit wont be approved until 8 am tomorrow. Well my season opens at 5:34 tomorrow. Oh well right. I should have plenty of time though. I have until sunday. Say 5 strutters when scouting today. Roosted them, and came across 3 jakes. Also had about 5 deer within 11 yards while wearing a carhart and blue jeans! They are just dumb in the spring and smart in the fall!!!

Well I will post pics if i get one.

Good luck all

Well with this being my last time to hunt this morning I ended up taking a jake. Actually it was the only bird that came with in range that had a beard. I heard all of 5 gobbles this weekend and they came from this bird all this morning.

As i was walking in I decided to try some putts on the mouth call. Sure enough he gobbled off the roost! So i scan the trees and there he was in full strut on his branch. So i quick set up in the hay field and hit the call again. He gobbled back and i shut up. He flew down about 5 minutes later to the north of me. So i hit the call one more time. I really let loose. Well he gobbled back. A couple minutes later he popped out in the field about 100 yards to the north along with 2 other jakes. The came in full strut the whole way. They came right too my b-mobile jake and after checking it out for a while my bird attacked it, actually bent the metal stake the deccoy was on!!!

Well the two smaller jakes ran off and this guy decided to stay for an extra minute and gave me a prefect 20 yard shot.

The specs
16.5 lbs
4.5 in beard
1/8 on the spurs (same on both sides)

Your score is 16.5 + 1.25 + 1.25 + 9 = 28

I have another hunt in 3 weeks so I will try for something bigger then!!!

Good luck all!

hey guys. reporting from north carolina again. shot my second bird here this morning. 22 lbs. 12 oz., 9 1/2" beard, with 1 1/8" spurs. looks like it's going to score a 64.25 which i think is .25 less than my first bird. and i think they only take one score right? pretty good hunt though. i heard a few birds early in the morning but couldn't get any to come to the field. then i looked to my right and had a hen coming in with the gobbler following close behind. shot him at 45 yards with my 12 gauge stoeger shooting winchest elite ultra mags. shot him once and he took a flip and then kicked up to fly and then shot him again midflight to finish him off.
