I am looking forward to this contest. It will be fun to hear everyones stories. I live in Iowa, so I will be hunting here and I also hunting in Wisconsin. I am hunting Wisconsin May 6-10. I haven't decided when I will hunt here. I will probably hunt April 17-21 and also the 4th season, which is April 29 - May 17. Good Luck to everyone.

Just checking in. I will be hunting inMichigan, from 4/27-5/3 if I get a tag. Oh ya and just to let you all know this is my first spring hunt, and only my second time turkey hunting.

RDHunter 02-19-2009 02:32 PM

RE: Team #12 Thread

Hey whatisup20 it's nice to see a fellow Michigander on the team, I'm about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour NW drive from you.
Depending on what tag I get from the DNR, I'll either be hunting in unit K or unit ZE, although our season starts April 18th and runs thru May 1st.
My first choice was unit ZE for late April/ early May and my second choice was unit K for the same weeks.
I wish you and our other team mates the best of luck, I hope all of us can score on some really big toms and win this contest.
Either way if we win or not , we'll have alot of fun trying and enjoying the great outdoors.

RE: Team #12 Thread

As soon as everybody check in we get down to picking a captain, name and avatar for our team.
In the meantime we all could start thinking of some names before the other teams take all the good" catchy " ones.

MichaelP 02-21-2009 10:36 AM

RE: Team #12 Thread

I am good with any avatar you guys pick, I just like to hunt and talk about hunting.

RE: Team #12 Thread

So how long have all of you been hunting? What is your biggest bird you have gotten?

Last fall was my first time turkey hunting, but I have been hunting for 3 years now. I am a new comer to the sport of hunting, and I am loving every minute.

Last fall I got a 21lb Tom, 11in bread, 1 1/4in spurs

RDHunter 02-21-2009 03:14 PM

RE: Team #12 Thread

I've been hunting these birds for about seven years now and only took one 18 pound hen during a fall hunt four years ago.
Theres a couple of (color phase ) toms I've been after, one of them is mostly white with some black in the tail and wing tips.
The other is a smokey gray with diffrent shades of black though out it's body, both of them would make a mighty fine torphy ideed.
I hope to get one of them this spring, I know they have lived though this winter and with any luck I'll have one of them within bow range.

whatisup02 02-22-2009 03:21 AM

RE: Team #12 Thread

I have never seen anything "color phase" like that before, in person that is.

RE: Team #12 Thread

Gee .... I hope the other guys check in soon, we need to come up with a name and decide who our captian isgonna be.

I guess " meet the flockers " is out :D
So many to choose from but we need to get something before the other teams get the good ones.
We could go with something like Beard Busters or Gobbler Getters or Struting Snipers, whatever we decide on we gotta come up with a name and then work on an avatar from what name we pick.
By the way .... who wants to be the captain of this bunch Tom Takers ... hey there another one to think about.

dtk913 02-25-2009 02:49 AM

RE: Team #12 Thread

First off, Good Luck to everyone on the team. I hope we have some great pictures to look at, and even better stories to read in the next few months. As for a Captain, I would say RD Hunter has done a pretty good job of keeping this thing rolling along so far.Iwould say the job is his if he will take it. For a name, it doesn't matter to me I am fine with anything.

What does anyone else think?

Dan

Strutting Snipers works for me.

Anyone else hunting in WI? If so where you hunting at? I'll be just west of Madison. I've been watching a few flocks all winter.

RE: Team #12 Thread

Fenrick,

I will be hunting WI May 6-10 down around Platteville. I grew up there, but moved to Iowa about 10 years ago, and have never turkey hunted there. A buddy of mine has a farm we are going to hunt. I used to deer hunt this farm and always saw a lot of turkeys, so hopefully it will work out.

RE: Team #12 Thread

Dan,

There sure are enough turkeys down here in the SW part of the state. I think this winter has been pretty good to them for the most part too. Nothing like it was last year. Where are you living in Iowa now?

Jon

Fenrick,

I live in Cedar Rapids, but I hunt in Southern Iowa. My dad has about 350 acres in Appanoose County. That is where I do the majority of my hunting.
