Turkey Gear – Boots

When hunting Eastern, Merriam’s or Gould’s gobblers in mountains, leather boots with lug or bobbed soles are the ticket. Stout leather boots are also good for hunting Rio Grande’s in Texas, where the prairies are rough and rocky and bushes and cacti have thick, sharp thorns.

When calling Eastern or Osceola turkeys in swamps and other waterlogged areas wear knee-high rubber boots. Many burly-style boots are available in the newest camouflage patterns.

Tuck your pants legs into boots to keep ticks, chiggers and other pests at bay. In the spring spray boots and pants with a DEET bug repellent and you’re good to go.
