Consistency is extremely important is trying to teach your dog rules and commands. When a rule is set, keep it that way. Do not change the meaning of it, or be flexible with it. A rule or command is set for a purpose, and should be used the same way every time. If you taught him one thing, but let him get away with the opposite, or if something is learned but never used in the same context, it would be confusing for the dog to learn at all. Consistency on the trainers behalf will cement whatever the dog is learning. The whole family should be included in the consistent training and rules. Consistency also insures that a dog knows what is expected and will not try to sneak around the rules.
