BOOTHWYN, PA —
The survey results are in! Do you work for one of the “Top Workplaces 2012”? You do if you work for Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), an American company that designs, manufactures and distributes rugged, waterproof environmental and sports performance instruments for active lifestyles and technical applications, located in Boothwyn, Pa. NK has recently been listed as one of the “Top Workplaces 2012” by WorkplaceDynamics LLP, an organization enlisted by The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com to poll employees about their workplace satisfaction.

This year’s survey polled more than 28,000 respondents, covering key areas of employee satisfaction related to workplace conditions, career opportunities, management, pay and benefits. Respondents were asked to rank statements such as “I feel genuinely appreciated at my workplace” and “I have the flexibility I need to balance my work and personal life.” Results compiled a clear view of how employees felt about their workplaces and whether they were likely to remain with their companies. In this year’s survey, NK ranked among the 45 best small companies to work for in the Philadelphia region.

With more than 80 current employees, NK was established in 1978 by Richard Kellerman and Paul Nielsen who devised a rowing product known as the Cox Box® that simplifies the coxswain’s many jobs and ensures the crew can hear every call. Now, with an ever-growing staff and product line, some of the business practices that led NK to the top of the workplace survey include the organization’s focus on employing Lean manufacturing tools to develop and empower its work force, its commitment to US manufacturing and jobs, and its dedication to environmental stewardship and giving back to the community. Employees at NK are continually encouraged to help find ways to make their jobs and NK products and services better. According to the WorkplaceDynamics website, “The most successful companies are the ones that employees believe in.” NK is definitely a company its employees believe in and now the stats prove it!

Nielsen-Kellerman designs, manufactures and distributes waterproof instruments for active lifestyles and technical applications across three brands: Kestrel® Pocket Weather® Meters, NK electronics for the sport of rowing and Blue Ocean® Rugged Audio. For more than 30 years, NK has been known worldwide for its waterproof speed measurement, timing and audio systems for competitive rowers. NK’s Kestrel Weather division has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced portable weather instruments for more than 15 years and owns multiple patents on their unique features. In 2011, NK added Blue Ocean® Rugged Megaphones and portable PA systems. NK is an American company that is committed to understanding what our customer truly needs and values, and then designing and building the highest-quality solution. NK’s tight-knit employee team works together on the whole cycle from product idea and research to design to building to shipping.
