Default Lime

Went to the feed store. Found out that the only way to get lime applied is to buy 25 tons. Thats a bit excessive.

Then asked about granular in a bag to apply on my own. 8 bucks for a 40 pound bag. Thats excessive also.

I suspect I'll have to suck it up on the bags for my small openings. But on the 1+ acre plot that will kill me dollar wise.

I still need to do a soil test for sure, but any thoughts in advance because I'm sure I'm around 7.5 PH according to all the neigbors samples.

Thanks, Jeff

Soil test your own area, the test is cheap. Wal-Mart has grandulated lime a lot cheaper if you need it.

As usual thank you! Its about backwards of what I was told. Though I was told something else about that feed store which I ignored. But it was a start.

Now I'm happy and will do a test. And hopefully the only place to lime will take a few bags in the pine trees....

I buy bulk ag lime from a quarry here in Kansas. There is a quarry about every 30 miles in every direction. It is $6 per ton. I use a small pickup and just tell the guy to give me a couple dollars worth of lime in the back, I get about half a ton and it's put in there with a f.e.l. Then I give the guy a few bucks and I'm on my way.

The most efficient way for me to spread it is with a leaf blower. One person drives the vehicle and another blows lime out the back wih the leaf blower. Mind you, I'm doing several acres. If you have a 1/4 acre or less plot it would probably be easier to just used bagged lime.

We pay $6. a ton for the farm, but the freight drives the cost up, we use several thousand tons a year,
