RE: Soybeans after soybeans?
Yes you can , we do it on several thousand acres , year after year after year.. Just keep up the ph, we farm some ground that is not good corn ground , sometimes we put in beans m then wheat , then second crop beans again the next year.. but soil tests are important....

RE: Soybeans after soybeans?
What part of the soil test should I be looking at?
We had frost last week. Almost a month earlier that the normal first expected frost date. Killed most of my beans which were not much anyway. We will disc them under this week and plant rye in there for a fall plot.
But I have been told not to plant beans in the same place two years in a row, and I want to be able to round-up the plot again next year and kill all the weeds so I can have a good, pure clover plot the following spring.
Thanks.
Brian

You can put clover in there next spring, sow it right in the rye and when you combine the rye the clover will get taller, just combine the rye closeto get most of the stalk.

The only reason you should worry, is if you are having a problem with a disease or insect damage on the beans.
If you inocculated the soybeans - you will not have to again the second year. If you did not - you should. The soil may not contain enough of the right type bateria to initiate Nitrogen Fixation for soybeans. You can check your existing crop by digging up a plant or two. The roots should look like:
.
Not always are there this many nodules, but - if there are none - then the soil lacks the bacteria - and you need to incoulate at planting next year for best results. Not everone inoculates though - especially where Nitrogen is plentiful.

Thank you for the replies. FH, thanks for the picture. I'll pull one or two plants up this weekend and see what the roots look like. There has never been beans there before and I did not inoculate when I planted.
I'll put them in there again next year with no worries!
