Default Logging question

I have about 8 acres of bottomland timber, pin oak, ash and maple that I am interested in having logged. Today I met with a logger that was recommended by a friend that dealt with him last winter. H e went over the details of the logging process and we identified and marked about 60 trees he said would be worthy of logging. He is going to give me a bid on Monday and I wanted to know if anyone had any past experience of dealing with a logger. If you could please share with me any details. I want to be informed and educated as best I can so I'll know if his bid is in the "ballpark." Thanks in advance for any info.

Default RE: Logging question

60 trees, depending on the size and species, probably won't be but a couple of loads and not a lot of money. If your friend was pleased with the loggers work it may be your best bet. If you can, get your county forester to come out and look. They may be able to help.

Default RE: Logging question

I had 60 cord of red pine logged off a year or so ago and my advice is to get the bid in writing. Be sure clean-up of the site is included. If they are chipping the limbs and brush how much are they paying you? There is a market tor wood chips up here. Ask the guy where he has been logging and ask for references. If he is reputable he will tell you of some satisfied customers. I was very satisfied with the guy that cut my trees and he didn't leave a big mess. terrry
