Default anything I can plant?

I live in western ny. The place I hunt is about 250 acres total. 100 which is brush 50 hay fields 70 hardwoods 30 old apple trees that are mostly dead. theirs not many deer on this property. It gets pounded during shot gun. Most winters I feed only about 5 or 6 deer at the most. I can brush-hogg about 2 acres of golden rod but I can't disc it. I was woundering if their was anything I could broadcast over the 2 acers that would help the deer through the winter. Thank you for any help.

Very tough if you can't disc harrow. I would suggest that you start with rye grass and try Biologic No-Plow, it is supposedly made for that type of situation.

First thing I would do is fertilize those apple trees.

A little tree juice may bring them back to life...and apple trees will surely bring deer back to the property consisteltly. They will really help for bowhunting season...not too much for yarding over the winter, though.

i am assuming if you can't disc then you can't kill the weeds either?

that being the case you will be hard pressed to get anthing to compete with the weeds

if you can spray and kill the weeds (and lime & fertilize - soil test) then you could try a no-till drill to establish clover or whatever
