Austrian winter pea's

Anyone planted these? A feed store owner told us this was good stuff and recommended it for a deer plott. He also recommended something called veltch but we never head of it before. We went with the Peas and Wheat. If youve planted the pea's before how did they do and how did hte deer like them? Ours are coming up realy well, i was surprised how many sprouted on top of the soil and still put root down.

I have planted them in my plot the last two years and they do great. I mix rye and turnips with them and have had no complaints. They all put pods on well this year, I haven't disced them under yet, but once I do they will come up well. I will just have to go over the field with turnips, clover or alfalfa, then throw some fertilizer down, and I will be set to go as soon as season rolls around. I know the deer eat them b/c every time deer came into the plot they would have the pea forage hanging out of both sides of their mouth as they were chomping away.

For best results they should be innoculated. In Texas we plant em in the fall.

We used an inoculant, we had a high germination rate. They are coming up great along with some wheat. Got a stealth cam out so if there is any action (besides the coyote crap i found) i may get it on film.

Here in this part of ohio we don't plant food plots for deer ,to many corn fields . We do plant hairey veltch for geese and groud cover .The deer eat it just fine.
