Default Hawthorn

Planted some Hawthorn seedlings. They are about 18 inches tall. Been about a week. Yesterday I notice one missing. Had about a one inch stem left. Would that had been deer? Deer like Hawthorn?

Was the cut clean like it was cut with a knife or was the stem ragged like it had been crushed and pulled and twisted off? A clean cut would indicate a rabbit, the other would indicate a deer. Deer have no teeth in front of the upper jaw to nake a clean nip off.

It was a clean cut. Must had been a rabbit.
Thanks
