Default Clover

I had a soil conservation guy tell me I should try broadcasting clover in a stand of grass I am trying to start. The grass has been in the ground for sometime with very little success. It does look like the grass is starting to come on & may well do something this year. I would like to have more than just the grass for the deer. What I planted was basically a native prairie grass mix that is predominently weeds right now. I had asked about working up some of the area planted to grass & planting it to row crops & the clover is what he came back with. Any thoughts
